My mom worked in a salon that was in this mall from like '91 to when the mall closed in 2012, I think. At one point there were two arcades, a comic shop, music store, movie theater, Coconuts/FYE, Walden Books, and food court with decent options for how small it was.
Sometimes when I had days off in grade school my mom would bring me to work and I'd just hang out in the mall for 6 hours. I probably spent more time there growing up than anywhere else besides my house and school. It was doing alright until around '06 and then it just gradually became a wasteland. My moms shop was open until the day it closed though so it was cool be able to go in and walk around those last few weeks knowing I'd never be in there again. Now it's a plaza with a WalMart, Gamestop, and a bunch of other typical places like that.

There’s a mall here that only has two stores now. Bass Pro Shop and a huge vintage video game store. It’s fucking sick you can still walk around the entire mall too I like to call that one the BLADERUNNER MALL. Need to get some photos there before it closes up shop!!!

I used to love the local malls when I was a kid. They had arcades, tons of media stores, and rad food. At some point they were all bought out by Westfield and by my teens they all had the same stores as every other mall. I did hang out a lot at one of them in prepatory academy though. All us scenesters and hardcore kids would go after school and hang out by the Starbucks and smoke ciggs and makeout and be a general nusiance to all the people getting coffee.

Limeridge mall. Food court and 2 dollar movies. It was the illest. It's more high end these days. Alot of brawls happened in that parking lot. Great skate ledges.
It was between a bunch of high schools so it was a great place for on sight shit. Ohhh being a kid.

That was wild, looking back on it now. Not sure if it happened in Canada, though, so if not, watch the movie "Kids" for a reference...

Mission Valley Mall - AMC Movie Theater was the center anchor, there was a Wizards of the Coast, KB Toys, Tilt (arcade), GameStop, Hot Topic, Ruby Diner, used to be an anime store and there was some cool skating spots as well.

It’s wild to think I spent a lot of time smoking cigs inside of shopping malls growing up RIP public smoking When were you born, the early 70's? I was born on 85 and I remember when you could smoke in the food court.

When were you born, the early 70's? I was born on 85 and I remember when you could smoke in the food court. I was referencing the fact that he said he actually got to smoke in them. Btw I saw it happen, too. I'm a lil' older than you.

Yeah, I remember tinfoil ashtrays at Burger King and McDonald, as well as people smoking in K-Mart.

I can still remember as a little kid going the places like Sizzler or Denny's and being able to smell smoke from the smoking section. It's unbelievable that was even a thing. Not a smoker but kind of miss seeing this.

The first Cinnabon was at my hometown mall. Other than that, there's nothing exciting about the mall.

Anyone have Hill’s stores around when they were lil?
They had a snack bar with soft pretzels, fresh popcorn, roller dogs, etc.
That smell combo was heaven RIP

Absolutely nothing special about my local mall, besides a "no hoods" rule that was basically an excuse for security to kick out black kids.

If I was a billionaire I would buy a dead mall and fill it with carefully recreated early 90’s shops. You could go there and buy things like a dancing coke can or those horrible pants. It would be like a theme park.

It's where the fuckin' toys are, bro! We also had a similar store called Roses that we would go to. The only real memorable thing from my childhood mall, River Ridge Mall in Lynchburg, VA, is that it was the place I scooped my first Wu-Tang shirt. Picked it up from one of those random little kiosks. I wore the FUCK out of that thing. The mall itself was a tiny single-story jawn. If we wanted to go to a larger mall, we'd have to drive out to Roanoke and hit up Valley View mall. It was your typical multi-level mall. Now my local mall is Woodfield mall in Schaumburg, IL. It used to be the world's largest mall before the Mall of America was built.

I don’t like malls much these days but the people watching in them is spot on. Love watching couples buying horrible crap for their houses or children throwing themselves on the ground and crying. Love it.

Fond memories of the early 90’s malls in my area. Smelled like pretzels and cigarettes. Cigarette burns all over the floors. I loved the dark arcade and remember seeing Lion King and In The Army Now in the small single theater there.
