Gun control works when applied evenly and aggressively, not in this chaotic confederalist patchwork we have now.  Its primary aim shouldn't be to stop incidents like this in particular, but if the United States weren't about 200 years behind the rest of the world on this issue, these incidents would basically disappear as a corollary.

Almost all of the illegal gun crime in IL is done with guns purchased legally in Indiana.

there's certainly a deep societal rot. I think rules and laws can help revert some of that, especially over time, but I look at the sexual obsession with guns, with being the Lone Good Guy vs The Bad, the obsessive individualist on-a-frontier mentality that so many of these conservative lunatics take and think it's so far off. I've made an active choice to even stop consuming shit that is tangential to that. I used to watch the odd gun nut vid on YT just for fun but outside of maybe Forgotten Weapons I don't even bother. A few years back I stopped bothering with shit like Call of Duty. I'm sure me doing that will literally do nothing, but it's just that psychotic identity that drives so much of this antisocial compulsion.

Like guns r neat and all and I think you should be able to own em etc, but so many of these morons need to just get backhanded by their grandpa or something, and it's not *just* guns. This same kind of mentality is everywhere for so many things, very likely brought on by the capitalist nightmare that we live in.

The fact that games like Call Of Duty are selling as well as they are speaks to a deep societal rot, considering how literally anyone I know who has actually served in the armed forces avoids those games like the plague and the only people I see buy them are angsty white teenagers and these fucking dickless lawn gnome looking adults who look like children. They think buying guns makes them into some sort of sleeper agent superhero.
Right wing media is still allowed to regurgitate right wing gun industry funded propaganda which really begs the question what’s the end game here?

Not explicitly but they are certainly:

1) Reflective of some parts of our culture and certainly describe our relationship with those things

2) At least partially responsible for shaping how we think, view and feel about those things, even if it's just through simple emulation and the casual adoption of their aesthetics and language. Iirc that's basically the original definition of what a meme is- a piece of culture that moves through/down a population.) So I think people; kids or otherwise,  use terms and concepts that they're familiar and proximal to, not that that is entirely an issue on its own, it's just that I think it simply conditions through familiarity, a potentially dangerous mindset about the tropes and systems of said games.

I wouldn't blame video games, movies, music, or any one thing, but our culture is also extremely desensitized to violence and the repercussions of it. This is a hardcore message board, so I know people here are familiar with serious blows to the head (intentional or not) yet no one really talks about how a single hit to the head can literally kill you.

We all know nothing is being done to change the course that this ship is headed, so mentally prepare yourselves for more violent extremism.

I feel kinda shitty just typing this out, especially now that I just became a first responder, but when I saw the story developing yesterday and woke this morning to see 6 dead and like 40+ injured I just kinda snicker and move on. I dunno if it’s fatigue, desensitization, lack of empathy? (I hope not). But I just find myself not caring anymore. It’s going to be finger wagging from both sides, empty promises from the left and more and more sociopathic/psychotic statements from the right. Then rinse and repeat until later on this week when we have another mass murder. I dunno, it’s just getting really hard to be surprised or shocked anymore about that stuff.

The right may be getting what they want politically, but part of that means doing nothing to improve the lives of the average person.
