Every Third Man release I've heard is recorded, mixed, and pressed so well. Sleep: at Third Man Records is sonically one the greatest live recordings of a band I can think of

The video for fell in love with a girl blew my little 13 year old balls off the first time I saw it.
Damn, now I just wanna listen to those first 3 albums the rest of the day.

im genuinely shocked people are besmirching the first couple albums of theirs. them shits are fucking hot fire, hot to the touch garage/punk albums. if they had mysteriously died or something right when White Blood Cells dropped and never did anything after people would definitely hold those albums in very high revere I like those records fine but they were MUCH better live, at least when I saw them. He was really going for it. I remember that Son House song in particular being incredible. They did Dylan and Dolly Parton covers that were killer too "You're Pretty Good Looking" is undeniable

The song "Dirty Weekend" is not on either of these but it is fucking hilarious yooo I just heard this for the first time recently, def had to rewind it to confirm some of the lyrics We'll hang the "Don't Disturb" outside our door I'M GONNA ROCK YOU 'TIL YOUR PUSSY'S SORE For my money he's probably the best white rock singer. The catalog admittedly isn't great.

It's not a hot take at all. Most of you geezers found out about punk through Slayer so it wouldn't make sense to you why the first three White Stripes album sound a lot like The Gun Club, MC5, The Birthday Party, The Stooges I found out about punk through Minor Threat. The White Stripes still suck.

Butthole Surfers- Locust Abortion Technician Was genuinely surprised to see a BS album make the list. Human Canonball makes me want to go bomb hills on my skateboard that I haven’t touched in like 20 years. 4/5 stars.

Somewhat of a rough stretch of albums for me lately
Dennis Wilson - Pacific Ocean Blue. I actually dug most of this which was unexpected
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin. Have never been a fan. That did not change
OutKast - Speakerboxx/The Love Below. Was into Stankonia, but never listened to this album. Surprisingly, I think I liked Speakerboxx more
Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs. I don’t get it. How did this even make the list? (Edit. I just googled. I guess it’s just me. It’s on a bunch of lists.) Pee yew 👎
Eagles - Eagles. 1st song had me thinking, not so bad. wen't downhill from there
Grateful Dead - American Beauty. No thanks. 😑
The Band - The Band. Ugh. Didn’t hate. Didn’t like.

I finally got something new and exciting!!!!!
Abdullah Ibrahim-Water From an Ancient Well
Sounds like jazz you'd hear at a bar in New Orleans, very brass heavy but definitely has it's downtempo moments too, and the piano on it fucking slaps. Not sure how often I'll go back to this album, but it's definitely a solid 4/5 and deserves to be on the list.

I got a white stripes album (5th one) like a week ago and it was so fucking boring I had to turn it off halfway through. I’ll check out their first few albums, but only because comparing them to the stooges, gun club, and mc5 is pretty damn high praise. Update: still don’t like the white stripes.

CCR dropped like 5 perfect albums in 4 years and then dropped the worst shit you ever heard in your life because Fogarty told the rest of the band to write their own shit if they had a problem with how he was doing things and then broke up. Greatest American band.

Today was Nico: Chelsea Girl. I had the first Velvet Underground and Nico LP when I was too young to really appreciate it and I wasn't sure what to expect out of this. I really liked it though. The instrumentation and compositions were truly beautiful, and I liked Nico's vocal a lot more than I did years ago. The Velvet Underground did a lot of the writing and performance on it and it shows. A couple songs were written by and performed with Jackson Brown, and there's even a Bob Dylan credit on one track.

The Band and in particular the self-titled is goated I think I might have liked it more if it wasn’t mixed in with this stretch of albums? Also, I’m definitely a mood listener so I’m sure some of these albums aren’t getting an entirely fair shake when I’m not in the mood for whatever style it is

Yesterday I had Dr. John- Gris-Gris. Like some form of bayou psychedelic folk rock. Not my thing but had some interesting moments. Mama Roux was a cool track. 3/5.
Today is Oasis- (What’s the Story) Morning Glory. Don’t think I’ve given a full listen since high school, maybe 20 years ago at this point.
