Vinyl wood plank flooring saved the day for us. They still look brand new after three years, two large dogs, and numerous cats. We had bamboo hardwoods at our last place with a dark finish. They scratched when you looked at them. I got really good at repair with a black sharpie. Damn.Good to know. I'm not a fan of the vinyl planking. My parents have it their house and I just don't like it. I WAS considering engineered bamboo since I've heard it's virtually indestructible. Now... IDK.

Knocked down the temporary kitchen we had set up in our dining room while our real kitchen was getting completely redone. I can’t believe the feeling I’ve got from putting our old refrigerator in the garage. Having a fridge out there is a new plateau I never knew I could reach. Having a garage fridge is a sign that you’ve truly made it in life

I have vinyl in the entryway and the kitchen and I’ll prob do the upstairs eventually. It’s held up to a bulldog, three cats, and the two dogs and cats the previous owners had.

Anyone bought blinds from blinds.com or selectblinds.com? Trying to replace basically all of the ones in my house with cell shades.
I don't need top quality, but also don't want trash

Looks like wood but doesn't feel like it. It's very easy to clean and seems to be more durable than real hardwood. It's not cheap but I'd absolutely recommend checking it out if you're thinking about it.

Ugh we had a consultation with 3-day Blinds and are waiting on a quote but its going to be in the thousands. Why are blinds so expensive, like damn. Seriously. Area rugs, pillows, and drapery. Why the hell are these items so ridiculous expensive? The blinds guy told us they also do curtains, but that he doesn't recommend it because they did a big house nearby that had 10 windows, and the invoice was FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS! FIFTY. THOUSAND. DOLLARS. for some curtains... FIFTY THOUSAND. FIVE-ZERO..

I'm assuming their windows were of some odd size or something to make it that expensive, but GOT DAMN.

Currently awaiting a 2nd quote but we've got the money saved so it's happening no matter what. Now terrified because Mrs. Escaped has been saying for years "Once we get new windows, I can't wait to get nice blinds." RIP, my savings again.

Moving into my current place and finding out the previous owners left the garage fridge made me so goddamn stoked and it's been absolutely indispensable. Legit don't know how I managed with just one fridge and then a mini-fridge for beer in my apartment.

This quote and the $50k number above are blowing my mind. I've always hung my own curtains and I can't really understand how labor could cost that much.

IDK guys I think part of it is that our windows in the living room are really wide and deep, so we need a custom size? IDK... this is all wild. contract296826_Redacted.pdf (77.29 KB)

When we bought our house 2 years ago, it had the original steel framed casement windows. They were super janky and the top panel opened to the outside, so there was no way to add screens. Ended up with lots of bugs in the house and the cat was constantly jumping out of them. Replaced them with double hung vinyl ones last year, it was super expensive but our quality of life is so much better now.
We also got cellular blinds for every window from blinds.com, if you look often enough they'll have pretty decent sales & free shipping from time to time.

I think ours is a little different because of the width of the window, they suggested we do some sort of weird button lift situation? I don't really know, but looks like Home Depot is in my future. I don't wanna be F'd in the A with no lube
