My wife wen't from "I don't like the ugly tile in the bathroom" to a 10k remodel, so that's cool. Currently going through this with the Mrs, yet at a much cheaper scale. Painted the kitchen yet somehow the decor in an adjacent room which you cannot see the kitchen from needs to be updated.

Can anyone give me suggestions for what to do with this monstrosity? It came this way when we bought the house, and the cupboard doors cover up a breaker box that isn't flush with the wall. I've considered taking out the entire thing and putting some cabinets over the BB, but it's still gonna look weird with the panel walls. The room has an awful layout in general but it also has it's own private bathroom so we'd like to use it for something other than storage. Attachments:

My wife wen't from "I don't like the ugly tile in the bathroom" to a 10k remodel, so that's cool. Our bathroom is from 1960 and still has MOST of the original pink tiles on the floor and walls, but it's got a bath fitter style tub install from what I would guess was the 80s or 90s. We really want to bring it back to the classic mid-century pink bathroom it once was but it needs a A LOT of work and doing it more modern would be so much cheaper. Kitchen is also in bad need of restoration. Looks like it was updated in the early 80s. This place is a straight up money pit! New windows and patio slider are going in very soon though, just put 1/3 down.

Our kitchen had really ugly light green formica countertops, so when we moved in, we paid for a granite countertop on the old cupboards, updated the hardware, and put in the fake tile sticky backsplash stuff. It doesn't look great, but we didn't have a lot to spend after buying. The bathroom is getting a full treatment since we can afford things now.

OK here are some better before/after pics of our place so far -- there is still a LOT to do, but we are getting there. I am really excited about our progress thus far, but I am incredibly burnt out on finding randos to help with tasks, and most of them doing a horrible job, lol. Living room - ALMOST done, still waiting on a chair for the little nook (out of picture), and we need to get a new rug because this green shag one smells like S-H-I-T, aaaaaannnd, look at those horrible blinds: Office - pretty much done, just need to touch up some paint: Backyard - my fav part of the house for sure. We are switching the pebbles for grass and planting a few trees in the front yard: Main bedroom: Main bathroom:Guest room - I know it's kind of ridiculous, but I wanted to go hard on the theme and have fun with it: Kitchen - I regret not doing new cabinets, but it wasn't in the budget: Dining room - waiting on the table we bought in freaking JANUARY to get here: Nursery:Upstairs guest bathroom: Laundry room - issa disaster right now, and we still have a lot of stuff to install, hoping to get a little sink in here too: Downstairs guest bathroom - it's SO tiny, I wanted to convert it to a half bath, but I was vetoed. I'm happy we kept the drippini in here because it'd be tiny regardless, but it's not my fav part of the house: Garage/den/ basement/right now total junk repository - hoping to ultimately do some soundproofing in here so drums can be played without the neighbors sending us hate mail:

Oh I mean it looks dope imo in the new pics.
Just meant moreso I can’t foresee a situation where I’m gonna even be able to move into a place and get it to look as good as this place did in the before pics! House is very nice, I am jealous.

The before pictures are all heavily photoshopped, since they are the listing pics that I just saved from Redfin, so they look brighter that what was reality, which was a lot of dirt and a obvious lack of upgrades. The seller lived here alone for 20 years and maintained it very well in terms of things being functional, but the technology and design and etc. had not been updated in 20+ years. Also, we were going for a rustic/industrial/farmhouse vibe, which I think we accomplished. Thanks for your input though.

My city is in a mess with our new sewage and water treatment plant being built. There is a large number of municipalities that use it but it is controlled by my city. All the surrounding municipalities had their rates go up 40 percent this year.
My house was built in 1905 and even though I have city water there is still a disconnected well in my basement. I'm hooking it back up and going to test the water quality hahahah

Big day today. New dishwasher (I did this) New panel (I did not do this) That's a sexy dishwasher. How big of a pain was it to upgrade your panel? We need to do it also. We had to add a sub-panel in order to install the GFI breaker for the hot tub, because apparently the GFIs for the older panels are on backorder for like a year, which is insane. We should have just upgraded the panel and been done with it.

We are in the middle of soliciting painter quotes to do our kitchen and living room because my wife and I can't imagine doing any more painting, but the quote we got was $2300 and I think I might just endure the pain. Any painting hacks/tips you've discovered over the years? Bite the bullet and get someone to do it?

It was kind of painful to re-tile because he apparently JUST redid both bathrooms.... He must have had the tile laying around since the late 90s?

Panel replacement cost $2400 and we were just without power for most of the day.

I thought about getting quotes to paint my place but the ceilings are crazy tall and I bet they would charge my ass double.

I still have to get my panel done, but I’ve been working 11 hour days since July and getting anyone to come out on weekends is impossible. I have the first two weeks of June off so hopefully I’ll be able to get someone in.

Just got a second quote to repair my irrigation system and holy shit the first guy attempted to rip me off. He told me every sprinkler head needed to be replaced, and my controller needed to be replaced, total with labor $3250. 2nd guy said that only 3 heads were busted, but my controller did in fact need to be replaced, total with labor $1100. Always get multiple quotes guys.

I am starting to get some other quotes so hopefully my experience is similar. Bad time for it though, I think, with the cost of materials right now. Got my deck mostly removed and the posts out this weekend. Didn't get a photo though. Gonna start cleaning up the area and get things ready to start putting in the pavers. Beds are coming out after in favor of one long one along the side.

I need a window AC unit for my sons room. It’s like 80 degrees on the second floor of our home when it’s 70 on the main floor. Any window AC unit recommendations? I considered portable AC but don’t think we’re gonna go that route. Oh, I meant “air conditioner” for the record. Not Anal Cunt.

Agreed. Horseshit. House was very sterile. I think the house still feels spacious and feels much more like a home with some warmth.
