Spent the past 3 days being overwhelmed with the amount of work i gotta do 👍 same.
I have about 4 trees in my yard that are dead and have to be cut down asap. They are too tall for me to do and there isn't really a safe place for them to land. worried about the $$$

Spent the past 3 days being overwhelmed with the amount of work i gotta do 👍 Same, ever since I got the house. I'm waiting on one of my employees right now, I've got a new water heater that needs to be installed, I've got to create an access hole into my crawl space because the dryer was just venting into nothingness.. the oven throws a breaker every time it's used... I've had the keys for like 10 days. Does homeownership just feel like constant levels of drowning?

A lot of people do diy things and when you become the new owner, you realize how they fixed their problem but fucked you over when you have to do something adjacent to it. Even though the movie the Money Pit is a bit exaggerated, it's still a pretty accurate portrayal of home ownership.

Owning a house rules and sucks at the same time. I was lucky to buy a 70ish year old house that had one owner. Aside from the kitchen and bathroom that were renovated 20+ years ago the whole house was completely untouched, but well maintained for the most part. This was the upstairs bedroom and nursery before and after which took way longer than expected.

Really wanted to do a barn quilt on the shed after painting it barn red but it's too cold now. I'll add it to the pile of shit in the...shed. Really, anything to get out of real work.

The floor contained asbestos so we put an epoxy over it and then floating engineered hardwood with underlayment sandwiched in between.

Our inspection came back pretty clean. Looks like we'll get a few years out of the roof and the windows, minus some capping on the roof. Some problem areas on the trim and the porch. They also have no idea how old the sewage pump is or when it was last inspected, which is remarkable given it's a whole-house system.

the girl and i are currently trying to nab a townhouse in baltimore. we found a great spot that had a price cut just a few days ago and still has an open house going but the agent said someone had put down an offer and so we're just gonna try to outbid them.
did the agent lie about the other offer to rush us into a purchase or to make himself look like he's good at his job?

Has anyone converted their house to natural gas? Looks like we’re getting lines in the neighborhood. I don’t really mind the electric appliances or water heater because our town owns the electric company and our monthly bill is cheap, but I’m sick of my 300 gallon oil tank in my basement.

Not my own, but I've done a fair bit of design doing that, both with energy company partnerships and just life of equipment replacements. Are you looking to just convert your existing boiler or go to a new more efficient condensing gas package?

Right now we just have forced hot air and want to upgrade to a central air unit.

On a certain level, you're already gonna need to add a condensing unit for the AC, why not consider all electric and just go full heat pump and get rid of a fuel source altogether (not sure of your location, so that could impact needing second stage or backup heat source)

My town doesn’t qualify for any rebates or special interest because our electricity isn’t through National Grid. That’s all way down the road though. Appreciate the insight!

We have had an unused bedroom in the downstairs of our split level and decided to pay someone to put drywall over the existing panels after I disassembled a hideous built in bookshelf and realized I was in over my head renovating the room on my own. Cost about 500 and now the room looks amazing. Will post proper before and after pics after I paint next week but I’m stoked.

I just got gas in my neighborhood last summer. I had an oil fired boiler for baseboard heat and hot water. The thing was clapped out so the timing was perfect. I wen't from using a tank of oil every 26 days or so at around $600 a tank in the winter to just $95 a month on the budget plan. I switched to a gas stove that I love cooking on and a storage tank for hot water. Highly recommend. I think the equipment will have payed for itself in under 2 years. Energy costs are soaring but if I’m not mistaken gas is projected to increase less than the other sources.

It started getting crazy after Covid hit. I was in the market last year, offered 15K above asking, and the owners still had 2 other offers above mine. My realtor says its only gotten worse since then.

Been pretty lazy with making my place my own since I moved in last July, but I've been making more of an effort lately. Happy with the progress so far, living room's looking good. Lesgeddit.

Felt good to be back in the shed and wrenching around on my toys for a while before rippin' em for a ride(fiancée and I are really into vintage mopeds). I have felt like there's something missing in my life for a while, and now I realize it's was the feeling of the springtime as a homeowner - the flowers poking through the dirt, putting screens in where there was just glass, the dog being more into going in the backyard than going for a walk around the block.
1920 colonial that technically sits on two lots. The shed/garage has several gaps in the wooden siding, and you can see light just poke through. Framing seems alright, but the doors(big, swinging barn-style doors) are sagging a bit and it looks like the previous owners(a family who lived there for 38 years) tried fixing it with some 2x4s - which made me initially think that the entire thing was gonna collapse when we got in last year.
I want to slowly but surely hack away at modernizing the interior of the shed while maintaining the antique look of the outside. I am so excited to have people over for grillin' and swillin' on Friday.

2022 is the last year for a full solar credit in MA. So, this year's big project will be panels on the roof with a battery backup. If I'm feeling really baller, maybe adding a metal roof first.

Bit the bullet before wood prices shoot up this spring/summer and bought all the wood we'll need to finish our basement this year. Hoping to add about 900 finished square feet including a bedroom, bathroom, office and kitchenette.
