that's more than my car cost I'm torn here, because 10k for a tv is goddamn ridiculous, but also not nearly enough for a decent whip. I have a 2011 Jetta TDI wagon that was $8k and it's fully loaded heated leather seats moonroof etc and the book value on it was $12k when I bought it but the dealer was a moron lol

After 2 years of being a lazy asshole, I finally have people coming out to give me quotes on upgrading my breaker box and installing ductless mini splits. I’m terrified they’re going to tell me they have to rewire the whole house. Had my panel replaced at the beginning of the year. I think it was like $4k. Just had a quote for mini splits (3 units) yesterday, but am trying to figure out the MassSave stuff for those because the quote more than I thought. Got a quote this morning and the bundle “deal” for the panel and ac was $43k lol. I knew this company was on the expensive side, but didn’t think it’d be anywhere near that.

what size condenser and how many head units?
Equipment pricing is fucked right now - we just got hit with a 40% increase on packaged rooftops, and with the updated energy code going into effect federally the first of 2023, pretty much you have to have your orders placed by early June to be sure that you're not subject to those. Couple that with the increased labor rates, fuel surcharges, etc and it's rough out there.

36k BTU condenser and 2 wall units upstairs. Downstairs he recommended having a ducted unit in the basement because of the floor plan. Full breakdown: Electric Panel $7,245 36k BTU Condenser $11,905.00 2 wall units $9,684.00 24k BTU ducted $14,532.00 Total $43,366.00

Got recessed lighting with a dimmer for the kitchen and a new ceiling fan with simplified panel switch installed last week for $2,500. Our first quote with a different company was over $5,000 for the exact same job. It's crazy how much variance there is in contracting.

I was quoted $12k total for 1 25k BTU heat pump, 1 10k BTU unit, and 2 5k BTU units

Yeah, even with markup and labor those are looking ridiculous.
the 6k BTU wall units from Mitsubishi are factory available in 3-4 week lead times for right at $500. Add in some electrical disconnects and a lineset and you're still under a grand per head plus a little labor. The ducted unit and condenser are 5k (minus ductwork and linesets).

Has anyone used MassSave for mini split rebates? I can't figure out the requirements and if model numbers need to be approved or not.

I’ve been recently quoted $3,800 to drop one tree. A few years back I had one tree dropped and 7 stumps removed for like $1,200.
Contractors be wilin’ out.

I figure with Covid demand and people paying with inflated value/low interest home eq loans contractors are going to be on one for the next year or two, not that I blame them.

Shit’s expensive once they get above a certain size. We had to have a tree taken down that pierced our roof twice with dropped branches in two years, anyways they had to bring in a massive crane and if they didn’t have access to the tree from the cul-de-sac they said it would have cost like five grand more for that alone. Could have gotten a very nice used car for the cost of getting the tree removed. Edit: also legit tree guys carry insurance that’s pretty expensive, so they’re going to charge accordingly to cover that cost to operate.

I got a quote like 3 years ago for I think 3 units in a Philly row home and it was like $11k so we backed out of that. Still wanna circle back to it because it would rock but would love it to be cheaper. We have radiator heat (good) and use window units for AC (bad)

I'm wobbling on if I should do it or not. I think the rebates might get $1-2k back, but it's still so pricey.

Yeah that was my worry. I was just hoping that one day the technology would improve and become cheaper and more efficient but the pandemic era kinda killed that

I have a wall mounted 85" but I'm waiting for LGs 100" OLED to get down to 10k before I splurge on it. Just get a projector. I got a real solid 4K one on Black Friday for $1500. Another $650 on a motorized screen and I’ve been watching movies and soccer at 140 inches the last few months. One of the few things I’ve ever done that feels baller. Edit my b I didn’t see down further that you said space was tight.

Just put a deposit down on 15k worth of new windows, arrival 6-8 weeks. Another guy bringing a bin of used flagstone this week for $1000 and leaving the bin for us to fill back up with garbage from the basement waterproofing and reno.
Been putting all of these things off for 3+ years and now my SO decides we should do everything all at once for maximum chaos.
Couch we ordered on boxing day should be here in the next couple weeks. everything's coming up millhouse

Has anyone here followed a youtube video on lawn care that was easy and actually worked? My lawn is mostly weeds and I want to fix it. I watched videos but this one guy that has a perfect lawn pretty much does the same things in the Spring and in the Fall(2 different videos).
TL/DR : Post vids of lawn care videos you have tried that will make my dry w.eeds infested lawn into a beautiful golf course lawn.

Depends where in the country you’re at, but I’ve always had success by applying a thick coat of compost/manure, then a layer a high quality seed and starter fertilizer, and then top coat with peat moss. Depends how bad the weeds are but you definitely want to kill them before hand because you’ll just be giving them something better to grow in if not.

so long as the weeds are green, I don't give a shit. This 100%. Right now the whole yard is a tie dye of wild flowers (weeds). It'll all be green in a few weeks though.
