My house was painted burgundy downstairs, it was so incredibly dark that if I didn't know that the people selling it to us, I wouldn't thought it was an opium den. Needless to say, we got the entire house painted in "Agreeable Gray" before we moved anything in, house felt double it's size when it was done.

Finally had my breaker box upgraded last week. I had a company come out and give me a quote for ac and they said $25-30k before rebates and I have the possibility of ditching oil heating. Another company is coming out Monday, so we’ll see what they say.

One wall in my front room was painted orange when I moved in. Another wall in the second bedroom had awful kitschy Marilyn Monroe wallpaper. The people living there before me must have had zero fucking taste.

Lmao our house was Neapolitan colors inside when we bought it bc the people before us were trying to be hip but the silver lining was that we got really good at interior painting

Laid 10 cubic yards of mulch over the weekend with the wife. Am totally fucking paying for the blower service next year even though it's $400 more.

My mom painted the entire interior of a $1m house (not saying much for MA) and it was hideous. I said whyyyyy? “It’s retro Hayley!” Ugh… then she put it up for sale and the realtor said “no”. Duh.

I’m over it, gonna get mini split install quotes. Window units are WACK and life is too short to be either hot or freezing in your own house for 3 months out of the year.

For two 12k units for the upstairs and a 24k ducted handler for the downstairs I’m looking at $32,620.

Found a gem of a house listing this morning First thought was what kind of psychopath paints their bedroom traffic cone orange, then I peeped the bed spread Some more pics. Can’t decide if the encased wizard doll or the inspirational Tom Hanks quote on the fridge is my fave You obviously don’t understand math. If one accent wall is good, four accent walls is four times as good.

Checking in again since it's been a bit. Sold our house and made a decent amount. As a previous poster mentioned, I'm paying more in interest (a normal level, but not 2.75 like I was before, sob.) But I'm moving to a much better area for things to do, far less crime, better schools, closer to the mountains, just all around better for this area. I'm not thrilled about the increase in mortgage, but I think I moved into a forever home.
On lawns: fuck them. I'll speak for Denver. Nobody should have one--we live in a desert. New house has a front lawn, which I guess I'll mow, water, dense nuggs of fat buds, seed, feed, and all that. But it's still dumb.

Just put a deposit down on 15k worth of new windows, arrival 6-8 weeks. Another guy bringing a bin of used flagstone this week for $1000 and leaving the bin for us to fill back up with garbage from the basement waterproofing and reno. Been putting all of these things off for 3+ years and now my SO decides we should do everything all at once for maximum chaos. Couch we ordered on boxing day should be here in the next couple weeks. everything's coming up millhouse my update: we dug out the backyard and unloaded the flagstone (its sitting in the driveway now) got 10 yards of screening delivered to the house and the guy accidentally clipped our eavestrough when dumping it and made a huge mess out of it. gave us a discount on the screening but now we're gonna end up redoing all the eavestroughs and fascia way earlier than we expected to. current quotes coming in anywhere from $5600 to $12000, what the fuck. i have another guy coming today for a 5th quote. jesus. windows still aren't here. couch came, it's MASSIVE and im kinda bummed we waited like 6 months for this thing just to be underwhelmed by it. i now want to replace all my living room furniture.

also fuck lawns, my SO spends so much time on the front yard because he enjoys it and is in a yard fight with our old eyetalian neighbour, but our backyard is a mess with two dogs tearing up the grass and pissing everywhere. thank god we're getting rid of 3 quarters of it with the new patio and deck.

I’ve been wanting an old quartersawn oak arts and crafts table with leaves for a long time now and recently found the perfect one at a flea market. Heavy table that we can expand when entertaining. At the market with 8 chairs and 3 leaves At home with just one leaf

The only source we found had some pretty steep price tags.

Ok, that sounds about right. It makes sense given the condition of the table. Congrats on the find!

Got a shit-ton of yardwork on deck for this summer since we did nothing last year with a newborn in the house: 1. Front rock garden 2. Backyard path and patio 3. Backyard trees - elms, poplars, maples mostly, but also some saskatoon, nanking cherry, and chokecherry shrubs/small trees 4. Backyard fence (brutal price) 5. Maybe a shed, but likely next year 6. A hundred minor misc items Definitely breaking the bank on some of this list. Got the geotextile and edging done for (1), with crushed basalt coming this morning: Big evening ahead of moving four yards of rock.

It actually didn't take to long to fill 'er up... used about 2.5 yards of the 4 on hand, will easily use another 0.5-1 to even things out tomorrow. Also want to plant some shrubs in there to fill things in a bit, smooth out the edging. Maybe a couple of low-lying junipers, not sure. Also rescued a baby rabbit from the window well. We had one die earlier in the spring, so I think I'm going to get in the habit of doing a check every evening: Interesting thing about these little guys is that they are about half the size of a normal bush rabbit when grown, and they don't turn white in the winter, so my Dad and I are thinking they're not native to this area.
