Just refreshed our main bathroom for thanksgiving. Moved into the house a few years ago and we never did anything with it other than paint the drippini. Vinyl flooring and wallpaper rock. Would have liked to get rid of the drop ceiling, but we ran out of time.

The more rooms I vacuum the hotter I get and the more clothing comes off. You know I’m down to my undies after vacuuming three floors

Homeowner adjacent, my neighbor who's about my age (38) just got a metal detector. I feel like I'm now in a retirement community when I see his dumb ass walking around with that thing and his headphones on.

Yeah I was originally just going to change out a few water stained tiles which I did. Will probably get rid of the drop ceiling entirely sometime this summer.

has anyone in here converted from home heating oil to natural gas from your utilities provider? is it worth it? I like our local oil company and all that, and the radiators work great. I just don't like having to dish out $800 all at once for that annual fill-up, and the tank's at about 3/8.

Each use case is different, but depending on your current boiler setup it could just be a burner swap/ conversion kit, however you'll be losing the efficiency of condensing NG technology. If your appliance is already at the end of it's service life, you'd have to make the call to swap that out with a new from the factory condensing gas boiler or spend money retrofitting your existing with the potential for another round of upgrade if that shits the bed.

Nothing, it's just a further reminder that I'm aging rapidly.

Getting quotes to finish our basement, no surprise shit is wildly expensive. $15k to add plumbing and yesterday a GC quoted us another $15k just for a simple bathroom addition. Still need to do electrical, framing, drywall ect for the rest of the space.
Never buy a one bath house unless you're the only one living in it and you never host visitors.

Oh yeah, its a crazy undertaking that nobody appreciates. My dad recently passed away, me and all my siblings uncovered a bunch of stuff be bought in 2019 to add a third bathroom to his place. They're convinced that we (more like I and they'd be in the way) could make it a weekend project and just add a third bathroom addition just because he already bought the drippini stalls, vanity and a toilet. Whats the big whoop, they do it on the make over shows all the time!

flipside: Buy a one bath house so you always have a reason for people to not invite themselves.

That would be my preference, unfortunately most of our family lives on the other side of the country so we get lots of extended stays. The idea was to basically have the basement set up as an apartment so we don’t have to deal with visitors as much.

My brother redid the main bath in his 1.5 bath last year and I think they were drippiniing at the gym for like 2 months. His wife loved that.

my house is barely big enough for me and my wife and it rocks never having to host anyone we currently have one spare bedroom, and my in-laws tried to show up TWELVE deep (including 3 teenage nieces, 3 kids under 10, and an newborn) last christmas. they planned to stay the night at our place for one night and then drive 4 hours to another town the next day. I said fuck that and they decided not to come at all. I win. my wife has a very 'complicated' relationship with her family and this shit happens all the time, it's so stressful. I feel like the finished basement will backfire and encourage more frequent/longer duration stays but at least they won't be in my main living space...

Drives me nuts seeing cute old houses with like 3 bedrooms and only one bath. No thank you I lived in a HxC house with 5 bedrooms and one bath. We made it work, but it sucked pretty bad, especially if anyone had their lady or man friend over. It was originally a 2 bedroom,, then they put up walls in the basement to add three more. My next roommate experience was a 2 bedroom 1 bath, which was between the two bedrooms. Weird as hell. Guests had to go through a bedroom to get to the bath. I have pretty much had the same experiences with too many roommates/only one bath and an apt with a bathroom that was only accessible by going through a bedroom first. I don’t even like sharing a bathroom with my partner now lol

I’ve been getting soft/hard water stains that develop in my toilet in the city every couple days. I’ve grown tired of constantly having to scrub my toilet (even tho i do be shiddin hard). Everything online seems to be about cleaning it, which isn’t a problem because I have a myriad of cleaning supplies. I just want to know how to prevent it. Anyone else encounter this and find a fix which works for you? lol

Here in the 'burbs, it's like 3 days before you get that stain setting in. I wasn't sure if it was hard water, less chlorinated water, or the materials of the cheap shit toilet we bought to match the pink bathroom.

We are going composite with aluminum rail. It faces north so it gets little sun. I want zero maintenance.

Anyone have a saniflo pump or something similar put in at their house? Looking to add another full bathroom in the basement and want to avoid any type of concrete cutting.

We got a few bids on our composite deck. $16K, $24K, and $32K. We wen't with the $16K and can't imagine spending twice as much for how good it turned out. Basically sighned the papers. around $18 for everything for a 12x12 composite that will lead to a concrete patio. I can live with that.
