Anyone have a saniflo pump or something similar put in at their house? Looking to add another full bathroom in the basement and want to avoid any type of concrete cutting. my basement bathroom has some type of toilet pump that also needs to run for the drippini and sink? it’s apparently broken and the plumber i hired to do work at my house when i bought it was like “yeah it needs some new parts just go to the plumbing supply place and get them and replace them” and i was like that’s what i hired you for you hard-rocker. and it still hasn’t been fixed and that bathroom is just unused until it is

My whole house is on a sewage pump. No idea why since the sewer line runs downhill at a steep angle and the lowest bathroom is on the same level as the pump well, but I'm no plumber. So far it's been fine. When I was a kid some numbnuts painter clogged our basement sewage pump by washing his brushes in the bathroom sink so don't do that.
This reminds me, Pat, what should I do with this pump in terms of maintenance? Have a plumber come out once a year?

I've done both the saniflo combo toilet, as well as the other above slab tank desighned to fit into a 2x6 joist where you step up into the bathroom. Performance wise I'd avoid the saniflo and if I had to do it again (or rather have done again), I'd sawcut a tank cutout and put the macerator down in there.

Anyone know how to troubleshoot/fix a portable gas generator?
I bought one a few years ago and I start it every 4-6 months to make sure that it starts up and runs. However, I was dumb and didn't check to see if it will actually power anything.
We lost power today, it started up great, but no power. Looks like all the breakers flipped. I saw online I might need to "flash the field" with a power drill? Only, I don't own a corded drill.
Anyone have any experience here?

B: not sure if you have a multimeter or electrical pole tester to check each side of the breaker button. Could be a hardware issue with the reset switch.

Anything fairly new would have a circuit built into the voltage regulator if it was necessary. What is the make and model? It could have brushes on the field rotor and the sliprings are dirty. Also don’t start it with anything plugged in, let it get to speed and warm up first

They’re loose, which makes sense if there’s no magnetic field, right? (I don’t know what I’m talking about.) Might have a multimeter, but I’d have to take it apart, right? It’s a Generac 5500. I do own a drill, two in fact. They’re both battery operated. even still, I doubt field flashing would actually do the trick. Just doesn’t really seem like it would be that easy. Also, thanks for the replies. I had a feeling Pat would chime in. You and PBcookies should do an A M radio podcast. Like car talk.

we bought our first home last may and definitely overpaid at the very peak of the (australian) market, but i rented from the ages of 19-35 and was sick of constantly moving house all the time and dealing with inspections etc.
i mostly lived in tiny 1-2br apartments for most of my adult life and this is a 3br, two-storey semi-detached house. i very, very grossly underestimated how much work and maintenance is involved, particularly when we are surrounded with massive gum trees. it feels like i complete (or pay for) one 'job' and then immediately five other things need my time and/or $$$.
one plus - our neighbours are nice!

We are going composite with aluminum rail. It faces north so it gets little sun. I want zero maintenance. I’m currently tearing out a good sized deck weekend by weekend when it’s above the teens. I’m putting in a small trex floating deck. My backyard is set up to park my motorcycle trailer/camper but it’s not fair to the dog to take up all that room. Plus the maintenance sucks.

We are pretty much doing the same. New will be 12x12 with Trex deck board. 60% smaller than previous. Really want to park my camper in my backyard.

With two dogs and a long winter, I think I’m giving up on having grass in my backyard. I think I’m going to gravel the whole thing this spring..l I have a 6 foot cedar privacy fence. Gonna throw down some pavers and maybe get a hot tub.
Why not?
