With two dogs and a long winter, I think I’m giving up on having grass in my backyard. I think I’m going to gravel the whole thing this spring..l I have a 6 foot cedar privacy fence. Gonna throw down some pavers and maybe get a hot tub. Why not? my wife wants to tear out all the grass and replace it with micro clover. apparently it’s way hardier, needs way less water, and you only have to cut it like twice a year

Nothing like a school bus backing into your mail box and taking it out and then just driving off to start off your morning. Oh fuck, I hate this kind of shit. Called the county dispatch and a guy came out; said they were going to re-dig the post and put a new one in along with some top soil from where the driver drove in my yard. Driver is somehow going to get a point on their license for this.

I had to call the county bus dispatch and they got me with some supervisor who says this happens once a week, which is insane if that's the case. I live on a corner lot in a neighborhood and the driver apparently wanted to save 30 seconds by backing up instead of turning around in a cul-de-sac.

Clover's getting real popular here too. And all the lil bees love it. Save the bees but also careful if you have allergies I guess
We just finished drywalling & taping our basement. Soon we'll be priming, painting, installing flooring, and then it's basically a liveable space. I don't need to think about the entire kitchen & bathroom install. I'm just excited to have walls and lights down there at this point.

We had gravel when we bought the house and then installed grass because the gravel gets crazy dirty, so the dog is constantly covered in dirt when he comes in.

Had the craziest week ever trying to juggle multiple banks, wrangle a lawyer, have a full blown panic attack because our realtor who’s a childhood friend of my wife had us waive a bunch of contingencies without really telling us the risk we were taking on etc but just paid the Purchase and sale deposit and should be good to go. I’m going to be so goddamn broke once I pay the rest of this down payment lol

The underwriting process when we bought our house had me stressed out leading up to our closing date. I didn’t think it was gonna happen until we were handed the keys. I still feel bad that my responsible wife had to deal with all of my old bad credit shit because just buying a house is stressful enough.

Our basement is almost finished. Just waiting on trim and doors to be installed and then one last paint job and she's pretty much done. We're turning it into a rental apartment for some extra cash but today I used the washer and dryer in the unit AND in our laundry room and I've already banged out 6 loads of laundry.
Now to fold it and put it all away. Ew

I'm about to finish the drywall in my basement shop. I've never done drywall in my life and it's definitely going to be a hack job but I guess that's better than unfinished.

Decided to forgo the new deck and build stairs to the back yard. I’m thinking a 15x15 landing of pea gravel or crushed limestone with pavers would look better with the prairie theme (aka natural foliage that I don’t have to mow.

We need concrete but debating of extending to a patio or doing a rock and paver solution to help water run off i to the yard.

Soooo, it’s been raining a ton here, and our historically woodsy/dry hillside has become this: Am I supposed to do something about this?…. Like is this going to be a nightmare to clear, or we don’t have to clear it until it dies? It’s so wild how luxurious it’s become.

For Californians, aka very unlikely to be homeowners.
Today, CA launched the “California Dream For All Shared Appreciation” loan program to help people who haven't been able to save up a lot for hefty down payments.
The program comes with several income qualifications, but it's very simple. The state will give first-time buyers 20% of the home's cost to help with the down payment. When the homeowner then sells the house, the state gets a portion back (15% or 20% of any appreciation of the home depending on your income) and, in turn, uses that money to help out the next first-time buyer.
The state plans to provide $300 million in payments to help 2,300 first-time buyers. You have to make below 150% of the area's median income.

Snow is finally fucking (mostly) gone and it has revealed that voles have eaten literally one third of my yard. I don't mind the damage because it grows back quick, but if I just have to rake up ten bags of dead grass I'm not sure why I bother to mulch. Definitely envying clover yards right now, or whatever they are called.
