forsure. even the indo-made guitars seem to be getting better. 2018
Yeah, you kinda have to go out of your way to find a shitty guitar these days. The new Squires are excellent. And I have a Rogue acoustic I paid $30 for I'd put against anything in the $300 range. Shit, I've even played a couple First Acts that were legit guitars by any standards hell, even Rondo and Brice are making some of the most solid guitars i've ever played, and they're straight budget brands

I have an Indo made Epiphone that I bought for about 200 bucks and it's actually really great.

If you put EMGs in anything, itll sound like anything else with EMGs. They take the rest of the guitar entirely out of the equation.
I've always been a strong proponent of EMGs in shit Epiphones

re: "Yeah, you kinda have to go out of your way to find a shitty guitar these days."
The last guitar I bought was a goldtop Les Paul knockoff by Oscar Schmidt (by Washburn). It's Chinese-made, it cost $170 on amazon, and it's great. Plays great, great neck, was easy to intonate and set up with the string gauge and action I prefer, acoustically resonant (fairly loud, tbh), and the pickups are fine, ballsy and beefy without being muddy at all, even though I'd sorta prefer a hint more brightness. Even the tuning machines are decent.

You could get that screaming for pocket change

Right on. I've read about the Treble Bleed a while ago, should probably just bite the bullet and do it.
I like the guitar so much that I'm probably gonna get another one in black next tax refund.

i can't live without treble bleed or a volume pedal Anything I own with passive pickups gets a Torres Treble Bleed, midrange circuit and 1 meg pots. I'd do a commercial for Torres

I play between a fender strat and an Ibanez artist. The Ibanez had been back in Missouri for a few years, but recently brought it back to New York to use for my band since it’s heavier, but I’ve just kept using the strat. Also have a Squier Jaguar bass that I just use for demoing shit at home. Been without an amp for about four years, but it’s never mattered because I haven’t been in a band for that long, so I’ve just gone DI with Logic using my Line 6 UX1 and use the podfarm for sounds. Now that I’m playing again, I’m getting a JCM900 soon.
I love to play and write music, but I’m next level dumb as fuck about all things gear related. Whether guitars, amps, or pedals, I’m dumb as hell. If it sounds good and plays good, I’m into it.

The best guitars i've played have always been MIJ.
I used to own numerous Ibanez Prestige's and ended up selling them to get a Les Paul. I believe my LP is a 2012 or 2013, before Gibson REALLY shit the bed. There have been so many times where I think of selling it. And then I play it and can't believe I even thought of it.
The Squier VM series is fantastic. I love my Jazzmaster.

I just bought my first Ibanez in years recently and I fucking love it. Pretty sure it's made in Korea and the quality is top-notch for a $350 guitar.
I have my eyes on a ESP M-I though.

The best guitars i've played have always been MIJ. Definitely. For my money, Jap guitars are the best in the world. Why anyone would even think of getting an American Fender over a jap one is beyond comprehension. My V is an 80's Japanese Jackson. Not even one of the crazy high-end ones, just a Pro-series bolt on. But it's one of, if not the most quality instrument I've ever owned. And I've had plenty of 60's Fenders and Gibsons

It blows my mind the level of quality in ESP and Ibanez's budget models.

I have my eyes on a CIJ Mustang bass near me.

It blows my mind the level of quality in ESP and Ibanez's budget models. I have an ESP LTD Viper 50. I put Duncan's in it, and I love it. It was my number 1 for a good decade. It was what I used on the PB2K and OLC stuff. I beat that thing HARD My only complaint is that the balance is fucked up. It's way neck-heavy so it always wants to droop when playing standing up. I duct-taped a sandbag to the strap to level it out. If I'm ever feeling ambitious, I'll probably route a hole in the back and pour in some lead.

Absolutely no complaints with it. I might switch the pickups eventually but apart from that, it's great.

bump. post live rigs that have been inspiring you. I'd really like a nice combo amp but I've yet to write the songs to justify buying one

My current rig (on the right) for the band I play guitar in: Guitars - Gibson Les Paul Studio with GFS Mean 90, 90's Gibson SG Standard, Fender Highway 1 Tele Amps - Orange AD30TC into no name 2x12 with 1 V30 and 1 G12T-65, VHT Pittbull 50CL & '81 Marshall 2203 into late 70's Marshall 4x12 with blackbacks (I generally use the Marshall live, but I use the VHT for tracking higher gain stuff). I split the signal between the two amps with a Radial Tonebone.
I've been on a huge gear-buying kick lately (to the detriment of my wallet). I'm still dying for an old AC30TB or a cool Bassman (reissue or clone) to handle some sweet cleans on the verge of breakup.

It's that a Marshall 800 or a JVM?

It's that a Marshall 800 or a JVM? They're both 800's. The one on the left is the other guitar player's. It's also an early 80's 2203, but it got modded to have a built-in attenuator. I'd never seen anything like that before, but it still rips. He usually runs it with the attenuation off as far as I know.

Greatest deal, and best kept secret in the business. I have a set of Jimi Staggers in my SRV strat, and the X2N knockoffs in my dinky

Has anyone tried one of the new EHX Green Russian muffs? I've heard good things and that it is, like, 98% close to the original. Just want to know if I can save money and grab that instead of the ARC Effects Big Green.

I think it's still pretty much stock with the exception of the extra attenuation at the end (it may actually be a post phase inverter master volume, but I've never heard of installing one of those on an amp that already has a MV).
Dude, GFS pickups are badass. I only have the Mean 90 bridge, but I am planning on getting the matching neck pickup also and something new for my Strat. I might check out those Jimi reverse staggers, they look like they would fit what I'm after.

I'll be recording a demo this weekend, planning to use my Hot Cat and tele for the most part, but dudeman has some other amps and things in the studio I could check out, nothing too wild though from what I saw wen we wen't to check the place out. I might try to borrow or even rent a used Les Paul or something because I don't own anything with humbuckers anymore, and having that tracked with my tele would be rad.
