After rewatching TFA for the first time in over a year, I realized how much Kylo is a cock to Hux. Right in the beginning you can tell he’s just getting sick of Kylos shit. So to me his turning into a mole makes sense.

Yeah, I liked the step brothers competing for an abusive parent dynamic between Kylo and Hux in TFA and TLJ and it was cool to see that carried through.

I have so much to say about this movie but I don't want to be as big of a wet blanket as the people were in the B9 thread after TLJ came out. He said, while wildly insulting everyone that enjoyed a movie instead of attacking the movie he didn’t enjoy. I dont see where I insulted anyone in this thread, let alone "wildly."

I don’t care if you loved this movie, to each their own, but to insinuate that a “pop”/big studio movie can’t be good beyond the metric of Transformers movies is pretty wack and quite frankly untrue. There’s at least several every year. This movie was definitely weak in a lot of ways compared to so many movies that came out this year regardless of studio. Hell, Rogue One came out not that long ago. Not a masterpiece or anything but come on. Star Wars can be good if it wants to be!

pros: adam driver's performance all the rey - kylo stuff, especially the duel on Endor best use of C3PO since ESB rey force grabbing the shuttle the sith chorus reveal palpatine looking like a giger nightmare babu frik, keri russell, and the whole design of the planet they're on EU canon in a major movie (force healing, engine wash, deck landings, the Ghost, Leia's jedi training, Rey's sentinel light saber, Rebels/TCW voice actor cameos) the overall visual storytelling and camera work (Tatooine's suns making a BB-8 shape just before the last shot was sick)
cons: the pacing during the first 5 minutes, sweet jesus i white knuckled that stuffing Rose Tico in the corner (at least show her big dicking that motor pool, not manning comms)
overall, i liked the movie and i want to see it again. it was exciting, it was tense, the action was bone crunching, and we got a lot of neat world building to pick apart (is Finn force sensitive? those storm troopers on Endor, whats their deal? is the Sith rule of two a means for a single collective consciousness to propagate themselves across time?). as for the Palpatine storyline, i'll be honest, i have a lot easier time believing that Sheev was weaving multiple plans all along than seeing a turbolaser shot arc and drop in TLJ. i would probably rank this between ROTJ and ROTS, good, not great.
ESB Rogue 1 ANH ROTJ TROS< tentatively here, i need to watch it again ROTS TFA Solo TPM TLJ ATOC

ALRIGHT Y'ALL I NEED SOME INPUT FROM THIS THREAD TO KNOW IF I AM BEING CRAZY OR NOT:
MY FRIEND SAID THAT THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY IS "AMAZING" FILMMAKING AND TO DISLIKE THEM OR SAY THEY AREN'T THAT GOOD IS TO SAY THAT THE ODYSSEY AND DANTE'S INFERNO IS YOUNG ADULT READING...
I AM ARGUING THAT THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY IS MY FAVORITE AND I LOVE THEM TIL MY DYING DAY BUT THEY'RE NOT TECHNICALLY GOOD FILMS, THEY'RE CLUNKY, AND STAR WARS IS MORE ENJOYABLE BECAUSE OF THE UNIVERSE AND CHARACTERS IT CREATED. LET ME REITERATE THAT I LOVE STAR WARS. I JUST DON'T GET WHY NERDS PRETEND IT IS HIGH BROW CINEMA. HE SAID THAT IS A POMPOUS apinion.....

I generally agree with this, however they really pioneered the special effects industry as we know it today, so that alone makes them something to look up to for influence in filmmaking. There's also some direction/editing stuff in the originals that set a good benchmark for narrative in film, something George Lucas himself didn't even learn from when he made the prequels. Having said that, yeah, the universe and characters are the main draw for these movies.

Yeah idk I guess when I rewatch the OG Trilogy I see sooo many goofs and eccentricities. The story telling is honestly not even that good or nuanced, it's very simple and that's why so many people can enjoy it. I guess I just think it's funny that so many nerds actually hold this in the same light as some of the greatest works that humanity has ever produced, including my friend, just because they are influenced by similar hero's journey stories. Seems to be waxing poetic about more of a fun sci-fi adventure series. There would be a lot less animosity and weird neckbeard behavior if people were just self aware about their enjoyments.

Everyone has something they enjoy a lot that is ultimately meaningless. The worst is when people think it's revelatory or profound to say that to others.

yeah that's the thing, its all very basic/classic storytelling tropes in space and Lucas always said that that's what he was doing.

Keep in mind that George Lucas really just wanted to make Flash Gordon serials, down to the fact that he attempted to buy the rights to Flash Gordon prior to writing the treatment script for Star Wars.

Picture this:
the year is 2077. The original Star Wars premiered 100 years ago. Disney is now owned by the Trump Organization. Supreme Leader Barron Trump has been calling the shots at Lucasfilm for a little over two decades now. Your grandkids are ecstatic about Episode XXIV that just came out on holotape. You are in your 80s-90s, explaining to them the magic of the original trilogy. They scoff at the idea of watching something that exists in 2D format. The hardcore fanbase now yearns for original sequel trilogy (eps 7,8, and 9). In retrospect they are masterpieces compared to the shit Trump is putting out. You can never go back to a time when there were just 3, 6, or even 9 films. Trump uses CGI to put Hillary Clinton into these movies as the main antagonist, and now you wish you hadn't spent your days complaining about the Emperor being shoehorned into episode 9. If only you knew what was yet to come...

It's really just a better done Roger Corman space saga.Star Wars was never intelligent but it wasn't as dumb as a Flash Gordon serial.

it was fine, a little cringey with the fan service and bad jokes but watchable. I'm not over the moon about the star wars franchise in general though. Space based fantasy isn't really my favorite.

The part where you said they're just movies seemed reductive to me, as if there's something wrong with anyone who takes them to be more than that. If that wasn't your intention, it's all good. But they ARE just movies. And if you're trying to make them more than that then there probably IS something wrong with you. And for reference I have been a huge fan since I was a kid. i would rather these people be into star wars and feel like they are part of something than be part of the republican party/tory followers.
