Got a notice from my ISP for downloading Rise of Skywalker two days ago. The Disney employee I'm supposed to contact if I felt the copyright warning was sent "in error" is someone with the first name MELT. LOL GTFO. Instantly screenshot that and sent it to friends. Anyway, I finally saw this movie and... ...I liked it. Yeah, the jump cuts during the first 1/3 of the flick were jarring. Yep, they waaaay abused the whole "force ghost" phenomenon. Yeah, Rey claiming the family name despite not actually being a Skywalker is... sort of a monster "fuck you" to her actual scavenger parents. But I was glued to the screen the whole time regardless. I didn't even really mind the super forced attempts at humor. All those voices of Jedi past encouraging Rey? You better believe I was tearing up like a mother bitch.
If they had killed off Chewie after murking Han in the first one I would have kamikaze'd Disney HQ.

Finally watched ep IX. Such a mess, it's weird. I wanted to like it more. Some of the later settings felt too fake. Almost like LOTR vibes.

No new Star Wars movie in 2022 because of the pandemic. Also saw that the High Republic books and such are being pushed back to 2021 as a result. Iβm possibly more interested in that project than whatever movies theyβre working on |

If you haven't watched it, Gallery on Disney Plus is really good. There's a bit where Dave Filoni breaks down the prequel trilogy and "Duel of The Fates" and it's one of the most beautiful and thoughtful encapsulations of why we care about Star Wars at all, and why it has had the staying power it has. Definite recommend any Star Wars fan watch it. I hope they give more of the reins to Filoni going forward.

Filoni as creative head with Lucas as a very present adviser absolutely must happen. Itβs now common knowledge that the sequel trilogy had no cohesive plan and it absolutely shows. Rogue One and Rebels (Mandalorian is pretty damn good too) are pretty much the only things worth talking about since the Disney purchase. Everything else was more or less a soulless cash grab.
It is unfortunate that the careless manor in which Star Wars has been treated by Kennedy and crew is overshadowed by incel alt right dorks who have been screaming "identity politics" from their shitty mountain for years now. Kennedy sucks because she never cared about Star Wars to begin with, plain and simple.
I donβt even know if itβs salvageable at this point tbh. I guess if we can get some decent Old Republic films or something else really cool that I donβt even know about, I might be able to muster some fresh excitement.

Everybody see the Mandalorian trailer at this point? They're really keeping their cards close to the chest with this one. Nothing crazy being exposed. There was a pretty big leak on a character that will show up which was more or less confirmed for season two today. It's Boba Fett, played by Temuera Morrison. Nice use of him and I'll be interested to see what they do with the character/if they stick with the Cobb Vanth story. |

Season 2 episode 1 was amazing. I had always wanted to see a Krayt Dragon in a Star Wars movie or show and my mind was blown by how great it looked.

The prophecy was the chosen one was supposed to bring balance to the force, not end war or bring about peace. There are a number of interpretations you can have about what balance is, but Lucas has said that the Sith are an unbalancing of the force, and that their elimination brings balance i.e. He was supposed to destroy the Sith. If Palpatine is back or never died or was cloned or whatever the fuck, then Anakin didn't accomplish anything and did not fulfill any prophecies and the first six movies are essentially pointless. I can back that, I never knew Lucas confirmed that balance=destroy the sith. Its been my interpretation that the sith (or at least dark side users, whether they align with sith or not) HAVE to exist for true balance. The force is constantly trying to balance itself, so for Palpatine to have been killed would've meant that the only two force users left (that we know of) are both light side users, aka there is no longer balance. So the force would have to balance that out by creating a new, powerful dark side user. That is where I thought Kylo Ren came in, cuz he was insanely powerful.Β I never addressed this, but I think it's important to remember that Jedi and Sith are just dogmatic organizations who manipulate the force. The force by nature is neither good nor bad, and depends on the wielder. One could argue that the Jedi unbalanced the force by believing themselves the sole welders of the light and by banishing categorically the dark side of the force. Thus, the Sith rose up and destroyed them, again unbalancing the force and tipping the see saw into the dark. One element of TLJ that I liked was that it sort of hinted at exploring this dichotomy, that the dark side of the force is not "evil" it is necessary and it is the wielder who makes it evil. Anakin balanced the force by eliminating both the Jedi Order and the Sith order, two factions wielding the force and thereby unbalancing it. |

I get why you guys like The Mandolorian, and the cool/obscure references, and the return to the spirit of Star Wars, and all that, but I just canβt get past the wooden acting and poorly written lines, the boring, generic, and predictable stories, the lack of tonal dynamics, and the lazy plot devices. It needs more British actors, too; the American accents canβt absorb the shortcomings of the script. It also tries so hard to be a western that it becomes a distraction.
My wife loves the show, and I just donβt get it. Itβs enjoyable for the creatures and the lore tie-ins, but thatβs about it for me.
Keep digging it, though. Iβm stoked for you.

I also loved the characterization of Luke in TLJ but it feels like they did this just to appease the "you're not a true star wars fan unless you love Clone Wars" fan boy contingent so it also sort of bummed me out. But, context aside, it was a great ep and Im glad they didn't kill Gideon. |
