It got a festival run last year I believe. Wide release was just delayed a bit.

I'm surprised Scream was this year and that we're getting a new one so soon.
Anyway, Joe Bob Christmas special is tomorrow!

I totally on board for Joe Begos and his brand of late night partying stoner metal sleaze. Christmas Bloody Christmas is so paper thin but thickly styled and I just really always like his characters. A really cool sex scene/kill scene juxtaposition montage set to Earthless. I dug it.
Don't Open til Christmas is so unbelievably bad lol. Kinda fun and bonkers at points, but sometimes just frustratingly bad lol.
Silent Night Deadly Night 5: The Toymaker. Oh boy. Brian Yuzna goes insane again with another wonky ending just barely less crazy than Society.

This past week I watched every single silent deadly night. 3,4 and 5….. wtf. 3)This was seriously the most boring fucking movie. It’s crazy that you would hire Bill Mosley as your lead and he’s pretty much silent that the entire movie. 4) I tried to make it through this turd three different times and fell asleep each time. Witches, orgies and bugs…awful. 5) I kinda liked this one. However …. A toy shop called Petto‘s. Like I get it … Joe Petto. Toy maker, Pinocchio… eh eh eh. But still PETTOS!?! Lol. Was not expecting that ending lolz

Skinamarink is showing at a theatre here this week, I’m hoping to catch it either Thursday or Saturday. I know nothing about it but keep hearing good things!
I’m glad Possession got added to Shudder, my gf has never seen it but it’s right up her alley. We’re going to watch it tonight

the menu
not great, but had a few laughs.
why did fiennes ask if taylor-joy was one of them or not? they all burned to death. the only difference was choco-vests and 'mallow crowns.

This last week I watched two horror movies on Shudder that I both loved.
-Speak No Evil: A fantastic Danish flick from 2022 that had me and my friends absolutely losing our mind with anxiety. One of the only movies I've seen in a while that had me anxious in the way that Funny Games did. I actually really like the element of social commentary that I didn't find to be heavy handed at all.
-The Queen of Black Magic: Only my second experience with Indonesian horror (Satan's Slaves is the other), and man, this movie is gnarly. I wasn't crazy about the last 10 minutes or so, but thats just a personal gripe. This movie is legitimately pretty scary and had an element of gruesome cruelty to it that I found to be very refreshing. Absolutely worth a watch.

What about that third act though? Man that really took it down a few notches for me. Movie had a lot of talk earlier in the thread. I agree on the anxiety, it perfectly ratcheted up the tension throughout. Just wish the payoff was better.

I agree on the anxiety, it perfectly ratcheted up the tension throughout. Just wish the payoff was better. I didn't have any problems with the ending tbh. Some of my friends were griping at the fact that they didn't fight or run or anything, but I really liked the message of the movie of people who just let terrible things happen to them incrementally until all you can really do is just sit by and witness your own destruction. I thought they tied it all together nicely. I totally get that the death-by-stoning is perhaps anticlimactic but I enjoyed the sort of biblical/old world sort of execution style that put a really nice bow on everything. The sort of death by a thousand cuts sort of thing (or a few dozen rocks)

I watched the 2009 movie Orphan last night. I thought I had seen it before, but I got it mixed up with the Boy and the Orphanage, both of which I have seen. It was actually much better than I expected. I think I was expecting just an average tepid PG 13 late 2000s horror movie, but it had a lot more pathos than I anticipated. Not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but a solid watch. Will totally check out the recent prequel.

Smile was an okay riff on It Follows / The Ring, I feel like the end part was lifted from The Taking of Deborah Logan, but whatever. Shocked at how much money it made, but that's how starved folks are for original content in the theater I think.

I'm not surprised it did well, it had a good marketing campaign and people eat that shit up. I'm over the creepy smile motif though.

Yeah it honestly felt like exactly the kind of horror movie that teens especially would flock to. A horror movie revolving around a creepy smile, much like creepy clowns, is some of the lowest hanging fruit to bring people into see a horror movie.

I liked smile alot. Seemed like a silly premise, but I felt that it was pulled off really well.

Surprised I slept on the Wyrmwood movies. Campy dumb fun but the pacing keeps ya glued in.
Can't believe I enjoyed another Aussie horror movie...
