Saw talk to me last night and thought it blew I thought it might. I was stoked to give it a try and wanted to like it. I mean, people hyped up hereditary and that's a top 5 horror for me, so I was super optimistic. But man, I kinda thought it was really dumb. All the characters were hella annoying and dumb. The plot was dumb. The main character is the WORST. Just no.

i thought it was just ok. could've been good, interesting premise, but then it just turned into an allegory of drug use and mental illness. i saw it in theatres and truly cannot remember a single specific detail from it

My current list while prepping for October. The list is huge, but I plan on using a random number generator to pick what to watch. Whatever I get to watch, is it. There are a couple must-see movies though... Maybe I'll start early.
Definitely going to watch: Barbarian Kwaidan Les Diaboliques Onibaba Eyes w/o a Face Ugetsu Haxan Scanners
New (to me) movies in the queue: Carnival of Souls Cat People Evil Dead Rise Orphan Piranha (remake) Vampyr The Craft Dr. Sleep (plus The Shining back-to-back) Malignant Insidious Cooties Godzilla (OG) Cronos The Blob (50s) The Wailing The Beyond The Burning Neon Demon Chopping Mall I'm Thinking of Ending Things Crimson Peak
Rewatch: Cabin in the Woods Hereditery Poltergeist The Witch From Dusk till Dawn Hausu Blade Nightmare on Elm Street Suspiria Return of the Living Dead Sleepaway Camp

I love Cat People. The Burning is the slasher film where Jason Alexander still had hair.

October watchlist. As always for me, these are all films that are new to me. Couple heavy hitters that I really ought to have seen on there too:
Body Bags Pearl Infinity Pool Black Sabbath The Old Dark House Crimes of the Future (2022) Cat People The Eye Pet Sematary Dentist 2 Maniac (OG) Shivers Slumber Party Massacre (OG) Dead and Buried Sleepaway Camp Ring Creepshow (Never made it past the third story for some reason) Motel Hell The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari Audition Repulsion The Birds The Blair Witch Project Hellraiser (2022) Poltergeist Cherry Falls The Prowler The Black Cat The Devils
Films from last year's list I never got round to:
House 3 Maniac Cop 2 The Borrower Possession Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer The Ninth Configuration Circuitry Man Patrick
Got my work cut out here. There's bound to be films I watch for podcasts I listen to and other random horrors thrown in there too.

It was like a sincere and non self-aware version of Wet Hot American Summer.

Don’t have a movie list yet, but have started working through some books already. Kinda easing into a bit this month (or I thought I was). Started with Blood Meridian and just finished The Ruins, which was much better as a book IMO. Both of those are just super bleak and depressing.
Just started on Nettle & Bone.
Have plans for: The Troop Don’t Fear the Reaper How to Sell a Haunted House The Descent The Insatiable Hunger of Trees
If people have suggestions for others I’d be happy to hear them. I haven’t read any Stephen King, is there a good place to start? I’ve heard good things about Pet Semetary. I’ve seen most of the movies of his books with film adaptations, but I know there’s a lot beyond that as well.

I’ve seen most of the movies of his books with film adaptations, but I know there’s a lot beyond that as well. King's short stories tend to be favored over his novels, but plenty of his novels are solid. I'm a huge fan of his, but feel like I've barely scratched the surface on his output because of what a prolific writer he is. Read these and dug them all: Salem's Lot Pet Semetary The Shining The Long Walk It Loved these short stories: The Jaunt The Man in the Black Suit The Raft One for the Road (ties into Salem's Lot) With the exception of The Man in the Black Suit, those are either in skellytan Crew and Night Shift. Some of his other adapted films come from those as well. Also, Different Seasons. His collection of novellas that include The Body, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil and the Breathing Method. More drama than horror, but great stories. If you have an interest in writing, his book On Writing is a must read. Should be taught in every writing class. And there's also Danse Macabre which is his book on the horror genre. BTW The Troop is great! Quick read and Nick Cutter's writing is heavily influenced by Stephen King. Couldn't put it down.

Saw talk to me last night and thought it blew I don't have high standards for horror, but I thought it was well written, edited and acted. Not all that scary but shit, I felt for almost all the characters. Just as much a sad movie as it was a horror.

I have to say the new Exorcist and Saw movies look like shit. Exorcist especially, it looks like a current DTV sequel or something; maybe they're marketing it poorly I don't know.
I will also be seeing both in the theater as soon as possible.

It could very well suck, but the trailer has me stoked and Halloween (2018) was good, so I’m in.

That Exorcist movie looks like crap too. At least Friedkin and Blatty are dead so they don't have to see this.

I liked Talk To Me but it's definitely a 3.1/5 on Letterboxd for a reason
Tomorrow is my last day of PTO so I might go back and see The Nun pt 2 or It Lives Inside. Neither look great so I'm not expecting much.

Did a double feature of It Lives Inside and No One Will Save You recently. Both were very mediocre. What a mediocre evening that was.

I don't get the hype with No One Will Save You at all. The dialogue-free approach seemed too gimmicky and the ending honked.

Not to mention that Exorcist has way more going on thematically and more nuance than Halloween. I love Halloween, but that movie is perfect in it's simplicity. I feel like this will be just a standard demonic possession movie, which the Exorcist is definitely not. I really don't think DGG is up for the task, but i'd love to be proved wrong.

I read when they did a test screening the new Exorcist in NY earlier this year, it tested very poorly. They tested it again in Texas a couple of months later, the reception was a little better, but it still wasn't looking too good.
It's a shame that David Gordon Green's first few films (All The Real Girls, George Washington, Undertow) are quite good, but now it seems like he's a horror remake director for hire.

Watched Burnt Offerings ('76) last night and it was nuts. Such an odd, unsettling vibe throughout the whole movie. All the performances were excellent too. Definitely gonna rewatch it.

Watched Retribution on Tubi, that shit rocked. A bonkers supernatural slasher film from the 80s.
