Huge Flanagan stan, and The Fall of the House of Usher is so sick.
Takes a moment for everything to work itself into form, not a bad thing, because when it starts to take full shape, I'd say around the end of episode 3, it's fucking incredible stuff from there on out. The thing I love most about these Flanagan series, is that EVERY single actor knows exactly what their role is and how its supposed to be played and what they are supposed to convey, from small parts to the biggest. The dude playing the younger lawer, Dupin, absolutely crushes his first big scene. Kate Siegel is just an absolute queen, and has been. No one doing long-form storytelling weaves in and out of flashbacks as seamlessly as Flanagan. Like all his stuff, the last 2 episodes are masterworks in emotional horror and concluding arcs.

I鈥檓 watching Grave Encounters rn. I haven鈥檛 seen it in over 10 years but I remember liking it a lot Movie is a really good time. I loved it and mostly hate found footage and paranormal shit. Highly recommend. The second one wasn't as good but not that bad either.

oh i tapped out of i saw the devil at the stairwell scene and the lady with the whip blades, was not in the head space for it that day. it was grueling and unpleasant despite my action/gore brain going "god that's so aggressively brutal that i am shocked/impressed" iko uwais hadn't even really been unleashed yet. one day i will finish it. I think you鈥檙e thinking of Raid? I would love to see Iko Uwais in a sick revenge horror movie though.

also digging House of Usher - i liked that Midnight Mass had heavy King/Darabont vibes and this one wears Poe/Price/Corman and even Succession and Blade on its sleeve
almost fell out the window when i realized the lawyer is Mark Hamill

Watched the exorcist III last night, and it was pretty underwhelming. I remember seeing it a long time ago, and not remembering much of what happened, so gave it another go, and yeah... not for me. Me and my wife were both pretty bored the whole time.

Evil dead rise was aight. Not mad at it. Gotta figure out which movies I wanna hit up this month. I鈥檓 trying to find new stuff I haven鈥檛 seen I like rise a lot. Lots of really creepy moments. But the first remake is batshit crazy. Like we put it on the other day and it's so intensely evil hahahah. And bloody. Definitely brings the negative energy. Hard.

Really enjoy TED 2013. wen't into it in the theatres after a night of drinking and walking out afterwards dealing with the funk I get in sometimes when I sober up and that ending are forever burned in my memory.

Watched the OG Evil Dead last week cos I realised I'd never actually seen it all the way through. Thanks for the Rise reminder! I liked the 2013 ED in isolation when it first came out. As you say, super intense and bloody, but it played last at a marathon I wen't to that showed all four, and after three films that are so full of personality and humour, it just felt miserable.

Or maybe he's starting, idk. But he was fucking awesome.

Has anyone seen The Evil Within?
Watching it right now, I can't believe this is a real movie. Real hard rocker spectacle.
It's about a mentally handicapped guy who interacts with a demon who tells him to kill. Directed by the grandson of J. Paul Getty who spent five years filming it on and off. Then spent 8 years in a secluded mansion for the post-production process while smoking tons of meth and using his own personal money to get it made. He died in 2015 due to an ulcer and smoking tons of meth. Someone else had to finish it for another year before it got released in 2017.
