Posted in the streaming thread, but Fall of House of Usherβ¦ Oh hell yeah. I did not care for Midnight Mass or the Hauntings, but this one has me completely hooked in. Starting episode 4 this evening. The end of episode 2β¦. Wooooooooooooooof. I called it earlier in the episode, but the execution was far better than Iβd imagined. Like a Cannibal Corpse album cover or some shit.

Weβve watched Nightmare Sisters, The Changeling, Ginger Snaps. Ginger Snaps is great. Me and a very good friend are going to a screening of this on Saturday. I'm very excited!

Last few movies I've seen since the weekend. In general, I couldn't be happier after making a point to NOT watch any trailer, or read any content about a movie before watching. Maybe I'll read the blurb out of curiosity, but I generally just trust Board and "best of" lists. I feel like both weekend movies would have been ruined -- it was so much better not knowing what was coming. Also, both movies this weekend seemed like forgotten/unfilmed X-Files episodes in the best way. Barbarian I honestly didn't know that this was a true monster movie and the break in the middle was extremely jarring -- it felt like it might be an anthology in the moment. Also, the social commentary was interesting, but I don't think it will hold up over time. This is especially true considering the folks being brought down around Long in recent news. I think the monster, the villain, and the themes are good enough on their own to subvert the usual horror assumptions, but I do see how calling it out specifically helps the audience make that connection even if it seemed unnecessary. Malignant This one reeeallly caught my by surprise, holy shit. My only criticism is that the "I'm adopted" line seemed to come out of nowhere for me and lost some of the intended impact. That said, the monster was fucking great and the backwards fight scenes were unexpected. I bounced between feeling creeped out by the dreamlike backwards movement, laughing at the awkward reverse fighting, and then trying to figure out how they mashed up all the shots to make it work. Eyes w/o a Face I have 30 minutes left, but I was shocked by how quickly they jumped into dark content. I mean, it opened with a woman dumping a faceless corpse into the Seine. It's obviously great in its own right, but I found that it was fun to think of all the films that borrowed so heavily from this movie. And generally, while the make up effects were rudimentary, I was surprised that they showed so much surgical-esque gore.

Draculer '79 with Frank Langella is aight. Frank is good, sets are cool, the super washed out color of the movie sucks though.

DARK HARVEST is pretty cool. Gory, fucking bonkers, cool tunes, fuck you attitude. Way more of an old regional horror movie than an annoying juvenile horror that comes straight to streaming these days. Definitely something like Without Warning, Pumpkinhead obviously, meets Cherry Falls.

Trying to find family appropriate scary movies is hard. Iβm in the middle of Poltergeist and itβs a hard no.
Donβt get me wrong, I forgot how great it is, but that shit is nightmare fuel for kids. Itβs crazy to think how genuinely creepy it is without all the gore and cgi. But when those kids turn double digits, itβs fucking on.

iβve collected accounts across many streaming services so i usually just use the search function on the roku tv and pick the first result. watching ads is only acceptable if theyβre front loaded but iβll kill myself if thereβs a midroll ad

I keep putting off the first Terrifier but I wanna get to it before the month is out.
Fall of the House of Usher is disrupting my usual burning through nothing but movies October, but I dig it. I find the monologues to be incredibly overwrought though.

Ernest Scared stupid, The Lost Boys, Fright Night 1985, The Witches 1990, The Gate, Gremlins, Gremlins 2, Beetlejuice, The Frighteners, Creepshow, Creepshow 2, Maybe Christine. You might be safe with a lot of Stephen King adaptations as well. Fright Night and the Lost Boys might be too much I just put them on cause I'm having a hard time coming up with horror movies that are tame enough for kids. I watched so many horror films as a kid and was always so scared. Might honestly be why I like them so much now.

We did do ghostbusters recently and it wen't over pretty well. I'm thinking about doing the new Paul Rudd one over the weekend.
I totally see how people hated clowns growing up after Poltergeist. First watched it as a juvenile, so it didn't really impact me too much. But that totally preys on a kid's nightmares in every possible way.
That's a great list, MMS. I'm trying to get the kids exposed to media with more... edge. Since we stopped watching cable, it's been difficult watching movies that hit the middle ground of appropriate, but not a baby movie. With cable, I didn't have to consider covering their eyes, or explaining why we don't use certain slurs anymore. That said, stumbling on something a little too advanced does provide teachable moments.

Garfield and Friends Halloween is on YouTube for free and I watch it every year.
Also All Hallows Eve and the Terrifier movies all blend in my head together. I have no idea what happens in them individually.

Checked out ghostwatch last night. Had to pay 4 bucks to rent it but it was totally worth it. Never seen anything like it tbh. It's a mockumentary about a team of people investigating a haunted house, but there's also a group of people in a studio doing a sort of telethon type thing and having discussions. It doesn't feel like a movie at times cause the acting is so casual and natural. I'll remember this one for sure.
