This is so dumb. I love it. edit: standouts this year have been Retribution (1987), A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) and Terrified (2018)

I was terrified of that movie as a kid so I think it would be perfect to show your children as well

We showed the kids The Others, all the shamalans, the ring was pushing it but they liked it, a quiet place and then some of the sillier monster ones like Gremlins, Tremors and even the Host. Comedies like ghostbusters and beetlejuice also worked (they loved beetlejuice).
Anything classic like the Universal Monsters or Hitchcock was a fail because it bored them and I stopped trying even though they would’ve been good fits.

Watched Malevolence again and I enjoyed it even more this time. It was on last year's list of stand outs, and it's already on this year's list. It's just super solid. I love it.

I think I watched Village of the Damned (the one with Christopher Reeves) at a young age. I don't remember how scary it is but the guy falling asleep on his bbq fucked me up as a kid.
I don't know if it was mentioned, but the twilight zone movie sort of works for older kids.

Checked out ghostwatch last night. Had to pay 4 bucks to rent it but it was totally worth it. Never seen anything like it tbh. It's a mockumentary about a team of people investigating a haunted house, but there's also a group of people in a studio doing a sort of telethon type thing and having discussions. It doesn't feel like a movie at times cause the acting is so casual and natural. I'll remember this one for sure. ah, ghostwatch is on tubi/pluto i think! could've saved those bux. nope, i watched it sometime in the spring so it must've spiked high enough in the algorithm that they decided to charge. one of the few FF that could be classified as "good".

library ghost at the beginning of ghostbusters scared the hell out of me We tried last year and this scene stopped us in our tracks. We did see it over the summer and they enjoyed it. We started afterlife tonight and it’s been a lot of fun so far Thanks for all the suggestions. I’ve been pitching Gremlins recently, so we’ll see how that goes too.

I watched Malignant today and enjoyed it, but something I noticed that bothered me was the title sequence. Does anybody else feel like they're out of place in a movie? I can understand for a tv series (this reminded me of walking dead) but for a movie, I prefer just a nice logo of the title or nothing at all.

I hate title sequences in movies. I remember watching Spider-Man as a kid and feeling like the title sequence wen't on for hours. It’s so dumb.
I’m binging a bunch of Svengoolie episodes that I have recorded. Right now he’s driving around Chicago with Jeff Daniel Phillips lol

Trying to find family appropriate scary movies is hard. I’m in the middle of Poltergeist and it’s a hard no. Don’t get me wrong, I forgot how great it is, but that shit is nightmare fuel for kids. It’s crazy to think how genuinely creepy it is without all the gore and cgi. But when those kids turn double digits, it’s fucking on. Something Wicked This Way Comes, The Lady in White, Return to Oz, Watcher in the Woods, Paperhouse, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Night Books and the Peanut Butter Solution are few kid friendly horror movies and half were done by Disney. Not exactly horror, but Big Trouble in Little China is definitely kid friendly, too.

Caught Dark Havest last night. Haven't read the book, but it's a pretty wild Halloween ride. Some really cool kills and I dug how they presented the world of this small town in the 1960s. The Misfits references felt like cheating since this took place 14 years before the band (Crimson Ghost masks can get a pass I guess, but not so much the other shit) as well as the use of the Damned's Neat Neat Neat. All that shit fit the vibe, but they didn't think fans would notice? I didn't buy everything about it, but enjoyed when it swung for the fences.

Kid appropriate horror/horror adjacent movies that I think would be safe are both Addams Family films from the 90’s, Monster House, ParaNorman, Frankenweenie OG and remake, Little Monsters, Hocus Pocus. More aggressive, but probably still safe, The Burbs, People Under The Stairs, Tremors, Little Shop of Horrors, Signs, Edward Scissorhands.

Remake stinks. Go for the OG. That shit is still so good. Also good looks on Monster Squad.

Just watched PET SEMATARY (OG) for the first time without commercial breaks and since before I was a teenager. Is it a particularly good movie? Not really. But the King book and the story is so good it helps out with any of the clunkiness of the acting, and it has late 80s/early 90s camera on it where everything feels thick and cold, so that works wonders.

Slumber party massacre is amazing. It is so fucking shitty but in the best way possible. We were all just laughing our asses off the whole time. Like WHAT is that killer?!! Literally the least menacing dude ever. The gay (in a good way) vibes are strong with this one.

I've now watched the first two Wishmaster movies and these are objectively shitty movies but I find myself hoping for more because the concept and the actor who plays the Djinn are so good. These things are nuts and I recommend watching them for their nuttiness- first one has a cavalcade of horror icons in non-horror-y roles.

Totally agree about the djinn dude. He is perfect for that role.

Rewatched Kissed this morning. Not even a horror really, it’s more like a weirdly wholesome romance movie. Recommended for the freakos

Doing a lil Halloween marathon tonight.
Don’t remember Halloween 3 at all. This is sort of dumb. Why is this part of the series.
