There's literally like 6 full song performances that just completely stop the flow of the movie for no reason other than him saying "here look at my daughter sing" Absolutely 0 rewatch value and essentially takes up a full half hour.

I like the village and devil a lot. Old was cool. But some of his other shit is pretty bad. He's a weird dude.

M. Night Shyamalan kind of screwed himself because of the success of the 6th Sense. The twist ending became an albatross that he had to (or thought he had to) honor ever since. Sometimes it worked, other times not so much and when he didn't go there it was more miss than hit.
I thought the first hour of Trap was pretty solid. The conceit was interesting and it was building to something. I didn't know his daughter was the singer so I didn't hold that against him (didn't mind her as an actress tbh), but may have had I known going into it because I bristled as his cameo which has become a bit overindulgent in his career. The music was not my thing, but I get the plot points. The key to drama, suspense and all that is breaking tension and not resolving it, so it made sense to keep coming back to the performance. But the third act is where it failed to match the strength of the set up and in movies like this if it doesn't go the distance it can spoil the film.
Also didn't realize he self finances his own films, so he's putting his money where his mouth is which explains a lot.

I think he has a solid fan base who enjoy it for what it is.
They're mostly fine compared to so much garbage you find on Tubi.

Even the first part that some people seem to genuinely enjoy drove me nuts. There's just not one logical part of this movie. I'm al for suspending belief if it warrants it but don't treat me like im stupid. I could write an essay on everything that made no sense

The cameo thing he does is supposed to be a nod to Hitchcock, who also appears in all his own movies, but is usually done in a much more subtle manner

Just watched The Deliverance (2024). I thought it was pretty good, but the pacing made it feel like a Tubi movie at times

I'm interested to see the spooky granny movie, Front Room. Hadn't seen anything about it until I was checking showtimes to see what all is out lately. A24 has an ok track record for horror so I might go for the theatre experience even though it will be in HBO in a month.

Just discovered Inside No. 9 now has 9 seasons. The show is an anthology series and the horror episodes are usually really good (most episodes are honestly). Here's a list of the ones to check out if it's not on your radar: www.fangoria.com/9-horrors-from-inside-no9/The Devil of Christmas and Dead Line were stand outs.

Watched Black Sabbath last night. Thought it looked great, but I don't think the stories were particularly strong. Karloff looking like the homie Vonnegut in that second short.

Agree that the stories weren't tops for such a high profile horror anthology, but not terrible either. My big takeaway was that I saw Black Sabbath long after seeing Pet Semetary (the original) and the countess in the The Drop Of Water story must have been a huge inspiration for the Zelda scenes. Felt similar in approach and effectiveness. Must have been insane seeing that in 1963.

Some good shit on there :) I watch tons of horror year-round, but I always go exclusively horror in October and usually watch at least one every day. I started messing around and figuring out what I will watch this year, it’s all slowly coming together.

the last 3 V/H/S movies have been all over the place, very hit or miss imo, but the first 2 are classics. That indonesian satanic cult segment from V/H/S 2 was one of the craziest things I've seen.

Watched the TIFF restoration of Cronenberg's Shivers last night. The doctor's dialogue was mixed so much lower than every other characters'. Fearsome mumbler that fella, made for a very frustrating watch.
