this most recent movie. the book is great. i was watchin a tubicore movie called Book of Monsters, it was made bad on purpose, and would've been a lot "better" if evil dead didn't exist, but it was pretty fun.

That shit is Secret of the Ooze with jump scares. Fun fact. In Daredevil he gets hit in the head by a canister of chemicals. In the ninja turtles a canister hits a guy in the face and rolls into the sewer.

I don’t know if there’s some cynicism about the 28 Years Later trilogy, but I’m looking forward to them big time. 28 Weeks Later was great and one hell of a great and bleak time at the movies.

I’ve got nothing but love for both. There frankly haven’t been enough arty zombie movies like the first one. Weeks is obviously just what happens whenever something gets better funding/mainstream attention but, regardless, it’s still an awesome movie. Saw it in the theater with an old GF and then wen't to WORK for 6 hours afterwards lol

What was a bummer about Days, they cleaned it up for home release. The picture was far grainier in theaters, to its benefit. I know it’s super highly regarded, but it seems like it’s not brought up enough when horror fans talk about the all time greats. Seems there’s a bias for the 70s/80s. When it played stateside, I was 15, but it felt like I was seeing something completely new and invigorating. Like I didn’t know there could be movies like it.

I first saw it as the original cut on tour at a friend’s apartment in 2004 and remember thinking the whole scenario felt plausible, and that’s what scared me the most about it. Like, they didn’t have to be dead to be fucked up zombies.
It’s easy to to lose sight of how zombie stuff really didn’t become a big thing with pop culture until 2010. I was hooked from age 8 onward, specifically with zombie stuff, so for literal DECADES all people had were the original Romero flicks, the Savini NOTLD, ROTLD, the weird dark comedy sequel to ROTLD, and some eyetalian stuff. The Dawn remake on the heels of Shaun of the Dead, and obv even 28 Days, really broke the door open for something like The Walking Dead to come along and make smearing yourself in corpse guts accepted, Emmy nominated television.
I mention all that bullshit because when something like 28 Days, or even Shaun of the Dead tbh, came along? It was personally a huge “FUCK yeah new stuff” thing for me.

I didn't like 28 Days Later but it's been 22 years and I was 13 I may need to give it another watch.

I forget that French movie, The Night Ate the World maybe? That might be the closest I’ve seen anybody get to doing an arty zombie movie well. Train to Busan has arty elements but that’s just skilled South Korean filmmaking.

The shopping scene in days is one of my favorite scenes ever. It's just so happy, and for a moment, it feels hopeful. Plus I like to imagine all the dumb snacks and beer that I would stock up on. I love the music in that scene too. The whole movie has the best music.

Hard to make an arty zombie movie as it's the antithesis of arty.

Just a one and done type of thing. If they didn't spend 30 minutes just beating the shit out of her beforehand it might be more palatable. But then it wouldn't be as effective. One of my favorite endings in horror tho.

Wolf Creek tries to act like its a documentary at the end and is a good movie. Wolf Creek 2 is just fucking great it veers into the absurd. Would recommend if you basically want to see Paul Hogan go on a rampage. and play Australian trivia with ya fingers as collateral mate!

I fucking love I Saw The Devil but yeah you're not gonna get a I Spit On Your Grave situation with Martyrs. Shits as depressing as it gets for the most part. Opening scene might be one of the most out of nowhere and shocking opening scenes I've ever seen tho.

Yesterday we binged the child's plays. Watched all of them except the 2019 one. Fuck that shit. 1-3 are classics. Can't go wrong there. Bride of chucky is literally perfect. One of the best horror movies ever. Seed of chucky is highly entertaining and has a really unique vibe throughout. Curse of chucky was pretty mid. Cult of chucky rocks really hard. Gonna add that to the list next year for sure. It's an extremely consistent series overall. Jennifer tilly is pure gold. Only ever watched the first one. Really ought to get on some of the others.
