I had only seen the first NOES before so we watched the first 3 this weekend. I can’t stop whispering “kill for me” to my wife now.

Mute Witness is what I watched last night. Underrated-ass flick. Great premise, and the first 25 minutes or so were excellent.

some others of October/stray thoughts:
*Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare - - I put this on in the middle of a 6 film overnight marathon as the "fun" choice, gave it all the good will I had, and still just couldn't. However the final third, while not good, is much better than the first half.
*Night of the Living Dead (Savini remake) - - great movie to put on as the sun is starting to come up
*Graveyard Rats - - watched the black and white version, looked great. shaggy dog story, but for under 40 minutes it worked well. Max'd out it's time.
*Castle of Blood - - could barely tell what's going on with the SD version on Prime. Sergio Corbucci haunted house movie isn't as cool as it sounds, tho Barbara Steele looks great even when you can barely see her.
*Marrowbone - - stacked cast, not horror, twisty, stale
*Dagon - - Stuart Gordon does A LOT with very little. It's legit like a Halloween Horror Nights maze when they get on the island or whatever.

The Viewing was great -- I loved the overt comedy aspects of it. His previous movies were great too, but the comedy always felt out of place. It was jarring and somewhat uncomfortable, which was probably the intent... and now that I think about it, it helped the films quite a bit. This time though, all of it was on point. I need to rewatch.

I feel like not many people out there today can do a shot where nothing happens except a door with back-lighting and lens flare slowly opens and make it something I want to immediately rewind and rewatch like Cosmatos. I love the guys visual style.

"The outside" one with the lotion is my favorite for some reason. The autopsy RULES. Loved the rat one, that main dude was in Cube.

This entire time I thought the main character in the graveyard rat episode was played by Stephen Root. Welp.

Haeckel's Tale, from Masters of Horror series... I feel like this whole series gave us some true weirdo freak shit and I love it. Every one I've watched has "wen't there" in such an unpretentious way.

Jenifer, Argento's segment, made me ill. that both excites me and reserves me in the best way. I shall watch that one and Miike's at the end of the run though.

Highly recommend Arrow’s streaming service!! There’s a ton of giallo and Jess Franco on there. What more do you need

Smile is certainly….a movie. Can’t say I’d recommend it. But it was cool seeing Kal Penn again.

Smile had me extremely tense. It’s basically just It Follows but I really like that movie so 🤷♂️

The Menu is great! Kind of a blend of satire, dark comedy, thriller and horror (to a degree), but will appeal to fans. The end didn't wow me as much of the bulk of the movie, but they really did a good job with it. Also just watched Soft & Quiet which is probably the most disturbing movie of 2022, at least that I've seen. Credit to Jason Blum for throwing Blumhouse's weight behind this because it's very different than anything else they've been attached to. Feels realistic and goes down rough. Goes from shocking to unsettling. An uncomfortable watch that's like a trainwreck you can't take your eyes off of. It reminded me of... A 2022 take on Romper Stomper, but with house wives instead of skinheads.

Soft & Quiet felt like it was inspired by Haneke, but I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a hit when it a streaming service due to its timely subject matter. It was pretty good.

Gate II is pretty sick. Came out in '90 but still has it's mind in the 80s. Great protagonist and cool punks. And Pamela Adlon. More horror movies should go to a sick alternate realm.
