“I want to be very clear, I thought what Israel chose to do about blowing up the pagers and walkie talkies and after targeting and eliminating membership and leadership of Hezbollah, I absolutely support that,” Fetterman (D-Pa.) said. “In fact, if anything, I love it.” Demonic. If I was AIPAC, I’d be like, dude, we love how well you’ve responded to our threats/incentives/money, believe me, but take it down to like 85%; you’re making the corruption a little *too* apparent. Nice work, though, we’re loving it.

I need Fetterman to help pass S.4316 to authorize urbanized area formula grants for service improvement and safety and security enhancement, and for other purposes.

New CNN poll has Harris at 48%, Trump 47%. Hopefully it’s a slight outlier cuz that’s ball game if those number hold on Election Day. Oh, I mean she's a long shot to win. Polls for presidential election years have traditionally underperformed and underestimated Trump's numbers. They just aren't a reliable indicator for the Trump era. Distinguish that with off-year elections and mid terms which seemed to underestimate Democratic enthusiasm and turnout. I feel like even if the polls had Harris up 5 or 6 points, it's still a coin toss. Margin of error? She's cooked. Look, she's doing better than Biden, and definitely gives the best shot at winning, but it was a pipe dream to think she'd win this. Combine that with shenanigans in Nebraska and the other weird electoral state (Maine? Maryland?) and it's a fuckin wrap. Like, get ready for reports of poll watchers, violence, Trumpers interfering with ballot collection and drop boxes, general violence and intimidation on election night. Barring a miracle, Trump is elected and the worst timeline continues.

It is pretty funny to have work meetings about stuff that effectively doesn’t matter anymore if Trump gets elected again.

A CNN national poll is pretty irrelevant taken on its own
The only polls that really matter are battle grounds
I also think it’s a fool’s errand to assume 2016/2020 numbers will be reflected the same in 2024 - ie, no, I don’t think Kamala has to perform with the same polling margins as Biden in 2020

Yeah, we will get the America we deserve. Democrats will lean harder to the right, the left will continue to do nothing. Russia continues its plan for world domination, America's standing in the world stage continues to diminish etc. etc. Sucks to have so many idealistic young people in this country who will have grown up under the shadow of Donald Trump for most of their lives. It's the only constant political figure my son and daughter have known basically.

What social, political indicator leads you to that conclusion? Biden benefitted from mail-in voting in Georgia, a state where they have rolled back those protections and have already engaged in shenanigans to disenfranchise the black vote. Kamala trails 2020 Biden among young black and all hispanic/Latin voters. Speaking of battlegrounds, Trump has a significant lead in Nevada and Arizona where we can expect those to return to their usual voting patterns given economic sentiment and anti-immigration are front of mind in those states. I'm not saying it's impossible, and I have a glimmer of hope, but it's not looking good, and I've had tempered expectations since the post-debate bump was almost non-existent.

Before 2020 this thread was full of handwringing about how Trump was going to win and he lost pretty handily. Polls aren't accurate and none of us except crustache have a direct understanding of how imbecilic dumpster whites think, so idk if it's useful.

My brother, you gotta relax a little. 2016 was nothing like 2020. Hard to assume that 2024 will be the same as either of those. As far as polling goes, you can’t look at single national polls in a vacuum. Dems always perform better in them anyway, it’s battlegrounds that matter.
At best this race is a toss-up. At worst, it’s a toss-up. Let October get halfway through before hitting the panic button.

Gonna be funny when the cost of everything spikes and the cure will be tripling down on tariffs and nationalism. I’ll go to church every Sunday if the sub 1% chance of Kamala winning electoral college and losing pop vote happens. But that might make everything much worse. Might change nothing about the electoral college and just make republicans even more crazy. I truly think we’re the best or among the best countries easily, but our citizens are just worse. I don’t mean more evil or racist or selfish. Just more head-up-the-ass stupid and gullible and partisan.

the average American depends far more on the federal government than they seem to understand. You could increase the state gas tax six times over and it wouldn’t be enough.

If you look back at my posting in 2020, I was one of a few people who weren't catastrophizing and thought Biden was going to win. I agree polls aren't a good indicator, but that usually doesn't work in Democrats' favor in an election year, and more so in the Trump era. Whatevs, I got people to plan for if Trump wins. Couldn't hurt to see it as more likely than not. Not gonna catch me flat footed relying on polls.

I’m gonna agree with Sorley Boy cuz since way back in the day I always thought, there’s a smart guy. I wanna say like 14 or 15 years ago or something he posted about dogs not being that cool, maybe due to the inherent danger of owning one, but that’s all I got against him. I could be remembering things completely wrong, so I don’t want wanna malign him cuz I can’t easily cite the source. Not being sarcastic or funny, I always thought he knew his shit and would lead an accomplished life. So, hanging my hopes on that. Should the polls be super accurate, I guess I’m just a crustache guy from now on.

A lot of your comment was pretty sensational. Poll watchers? Maine? Nebraska? All of which are non-factors because neither state is changing their EC process and no poll watcher is going to have any legitimate impact. I get being stressed and cautiously optimistic, but the bulk of that second paragraph comes off as panic. Don’t mean any of this to be a dick.
