So, best case is shitty right wing polls are flooding the zone right now, which means almost certainly Harris wins. Worst case is they’re mostly accurate, which means it’s probably a bit worse than a straight toss up for her. Some smart folks are pointing towards flooding the zone, but i dunno if that’s just cope. this term is p new to me so i had to look it up. didnt even know that was a thing with republican pollsters this election.

It was a shit show in 2022 and all it does is raise the specter that elections are being stolen because these retarts are being intentionally, dubiously misled. And, well, since they’re all useful idiots, it’s super effective red meat that keeps them on the hook.

When you break it down it's basically the Trump mentality of cramming so much outrageous shit into public view, nobody is shocked/disgusted by it anymore. Harris has to run a perfect campaign and even then, she can lose. Trump could literally piss himself right now and he wouldn't lose percentage points.

I really don’t know what the solution is for the non-crazy republicans. The ones who watch Fox for the “straight news” segments and think Hannity kinda sucks. They don’t have a grasp on how even the higher quality conservative media just lies by omission every day. So many things they just don’t cover. I remember that years ago MSNBC was rated more partisan than Fox, which I think came down to consistent framing or something. But that fails to o-count for how many news stories Fox just won’t cover. Everybody with a functioning soul jumped ship during or directly following Trump’s term, with Chris Wallace quitting over Jan 6th stuff.

Chris Wallace’s show on CNN is such a delight in comparison to Smerconish. I hope a plane falls on Smerconish.

Everybody with a functioning soul jumped ship during or directly following Trump’s term, with Chris Wallace quitting over Jan 6th stuff. The biggest issue—because they're gonna default to what they know as traditionalists—is they can't break from the idea that it's still some variation of Bush v. Clinton, McCain v. Obama, etc. on a fundamental level. It isn't, and anybody who's paid barely any attention and is honest about it can recognize that. The Roe situation should've been enough to signal that; I mean, that's something that probably a lot of these Republican woman took for granted back in the day, because they're human too. They've been hearing negative stuff about their party for years, usually justifiably so, but now they think the current wave of Trump criticism is some contemporary version of that. They don't need to look into dudes policy positions, or dig too deeply into what he says or does, because they're gonna vote "R" down the ballot regardless. It's not a universal thing, obviously. I just think there are definitely educated Republicans who realize this isn't the same sorta politics they remember from when they really started paying attention in the late 80s/early 90s. It just sucks those Republicans aren't around as much anymore.

Part of the conservative temperament that steers some is they just don’t like weird shit. Which I think is understandable. Just suburban voters who don’t put up much of a fuss in life. They see the riots and protests in cities in 2020 and think “nah, don’t want any of that.” Pretty all around stable people who pay their taxes, have a regular ass career, nice kids, and don’t go on Facebook rants. These people think Trump is obnoxious or unpalatable, but they don’t understand the rot of the party. They don’t recognize that they’re the ones voting for the weird shit.

A lot of them are weirdly hung up on their identity as Republicans. I've seen a lot of interviews with people saying they think Trump is trash “but I'm a Republican”.
There's also definitely some underlying sexism with them, in particular I saw some Republican woman saying she thinks Harris is better but isn't sure about “foreign policy”. I really doubt a loyal republican has a problem with the Gaza genocide or bolstering democracy abroad so I assume it's a dog whistle for “weak woman will be run over by manly men world leaders”.

It just really feels like with a lot of these establishment republicans retiring to write tell-all's or just straight up DYING, it's becoming harder and harder for the Yale educated and career focused generations of the party to suppress the fact that, HEY... turns out, not only do huge pockets of the "uneducated crazy woo-woo religious Conservative" wing make up the majority of their voting base? A bunch of those "uneducated crazy woo-woo religious Conservatives" have actually been RUNNING some shit in the country for a while! And a lot of those same people hitched their wagon to the Trump disinfo train about the election. I mean, what's that say about their credibility on ANY issue? Dogshit sticks.
Folks who maybe post here, or anybody who reads critical shit about the GOP in the last decade, can recognize that... yeah, "Good Old Party" built on Christian moral values, and then the obvious wing of the party who came to be in the era of Reagan, and it just pumped all that Christian moral value stuff full of steroids. But to the average person who's just like, voting for memes or whatever? They don't recognize how much of the actual Republican platform is just built on "dude in sky sez women stay home, gays are a sin, plz don't abort baby if you're poor!"
I think that's changing tho, tbh... if only because a lot of kids are coming of age in households with critical parents like the folks who post here lol. It's good to have a healthy suspicion for anything, and for some reason a lot of folks who grew up during the advent of the internet still fall for like, the literal IRL version of pop-up scams telling you to click here for free anal sex with horny sluts in your area.

All the right wingers I know fall into 4 camps.
1. Evangelical losers who had personal problems and NEED it to be true or their world falls apart. They write off Trump as God sending a messenger who may do bad things but ultimately serves his message. Bat shit loons who are hyper contrarian about everything and fall for woo woo medical nonsense and magical thinking.
2. Angry dorky gamer types who have had a bad history with women and garbage epic own twitch debate politics gives them a place on a hierarchy.
3. General dumb people too dumb to even know how to question anything they think or know what they actually believe policy wise. They get mad at contradictions and get really mad at how dumb they are. Usually easily persuaded by AM radio and cable news so they take it out on everyone else.
4. Oppressed petit bourgeois small business tyrants who blame everyone else. Don't get the fat cat breaks and welfare queens are taking their money. Live under the maxim "It's my money and I need it now!"
All hyper individualized people with made up persecution complexes. Easy prey for the scammers and hucksters that make up the GOP.

I'm feeling pretty pessimistic about this election. I live in a solid blue state, so in a way my vote doesn't really matter, it only ever matters for the primaries. I usually end up doing a protest third party vote. Most people I know in swing states seem to be disinterested about this election, and it frustrates me because there are certain issues like reproductive rights that will be dramatically worse under Trump. The supreme court justices he appointed alone will affect the rest of our lives for decades after. But no one seems to see things from that perspective and talking about that is basically synonymous with genocide apologia at this point in more progressive circles.
I guess I don't really know how to feel about it. I can't bring myself to encourage people to vote with any real enthusiasm. But I'm really frustrated by people who abstain on voting on principle because I find them to lack serious critical thinking skills and essentially they favor rhetoric and absolving themselves of guilt over over real-life consequences, like you can't actually boycott a genocide by not voting. I struggle to understand logically how not voting is a move that prevents genocide. I've never seen an instance in American history where policy was boycotted by not voting for president. It genuinely doesn't make any fucking sense.
I wish more people wanted to have the critical thinking to even wanna talk about things beyond slogans or reciting their personal set of aphorisms over and over. But like for the most part, regardless of political views, people's eyes glaze over their head and they're never gonna entertain talking about anything on that level.

While fully acknowledging that Democrats, progressives, and the leftmost figures in American politics have a tendency to get language or emphasis in a law that can end up being utterly ineffectual because of a lack of professional capacity and effective program delivery, I just fail to see how pissing away millions of dollars provided by RAISE grants (which will happen for sure under Trump) is somehow going to benefit people in Gaza. And there’s many other things you could swap in for “RAISE grants.”
Moreover, most leftwing activist types, despite a sense that they are somehow intellectually engaged and “in the know”, have a imaginary conception of the US government that simply does not exist and is antiquated by at least 100 years.
