If fascism is this attractive during an era of relative prosperity, propelled by grievance and myopia, then I dunno. Our institutions are better than most, but when everyone holds on to half truths or straight up lies about conditions on the ground, shit. With social media, what happens to this country when a big recession hits?

I don’t mean to be that guy now, but now having a daughter, I really don’t have any interest in the right wing steering the culture and law of this country more than it already does when it’s not in power. The less of those hard-rockers from top to bottom making decisions that will affect her life the better, and the less of those hard-rockers having their misogyny enabled and institutionally validated the better.
The very loud non-voter usually comes across as a walking “don’t blame me I voted for the OTHER guy” bumper sticker but shunning even more responsibility. I’m not enthusiastic about my vote but how many times in American history would I have been? Vote or don’t, it’s your call and your line to draw, I’m not hectoring you about it, but those who make their abstinence their online identity come across more performative than activist. A vote doesn’t mean you can’t also organize in other ways, and I can’t see a Trump admin responding to protest or organizing less harmfully than a Harris admin.
Since I can’t expect to approach any election with enthusiasm (reality does not bend to my desire), I must approach it with pragmatism. If all other issues were equal, I personally think Dems have at least an iota more of a chance to encourage a solution in Gaza that could result in even one less death than a Republican. So that alone would make them preferential in my mind. Good or perfect? No, but preferential. And that’s assuming all other issues are equal, which they clearly aren’t. So for me personally, it’s a no brainer.
