Private equity has invested in SFHs, etc. because it’s a lucrative investment because there’s a shortage. There is not an “artificial shortage.” And that figure is wrong. Private equity firms do not own anywhere near 40% of single-family homes. By the way, what’s your union pension fund invested in? Probably got some residential real estate somewhere in that portfolio. |

I guess that’s a little nebulous. Far left in terms of economic policy? Foreign policy? Social policy or just social attitudes? Some of that stuff is contested over what constitutes far left or just left of center. A social safety net like some European countries? Upsides and downsides there. I don’t think of that as far left. Affordable housing? I think the better solution is changing zoning laws to allow for a lot more development, with affordable housing as enforced by the government still part of the equation but mitigated greatly by the sheer amount of supply. When I say far left, what I’m talking about abolishing the police, abolishing capitalism, rose twitter type stuff. Or the old school leftist foreign policy that’s very similar to paleoconservative/Pat Buchanan shit with less racism. Or the quasi-ironic “kill the billionaires” posturing.
