This election was set in stone by countless decisions made over the course of decades. There’s nothing they could have done during the campaign. there’s definitely a lot they could have done, they unfortunately did none of it

idk what people in this thread think about John Oliver but he brought up that at the very least, the campaign could've said the number of trans athletes is so miniscule to how MAGA makes it out and could deflate the "Kamala is for they/them" ads

yeah flip flopping to “i think we should follow the law” on trans rights when the only issue that works in your favor is abortion was a perplexing move

honestly, calling republicans weird every time they bring up wedge issues is a devastatingly effective strategy. it defangs their attacks and makes them the target of ridicule and shame. the fact that the Kamala campaign wen't out of their way to muzzle Walz and stop calling republicans weird blows my fucking mind. you finally figured out their weakness and you refuse to exploit it? fucking losers.

were the obama and biden campaigns rightward in terms of rhetoric? Obama could talk about a turd on the sidewalk for 30 minutes and sweep an election, man, I dunno.

sounds like the democrats need to put an emphasis on charisma and likability then! Well, they need to lie more. Which both parties do a ton during presidential elections. People are really animated by issues that are tied to their local or municipal (or maybe county, maaaaybe state) government, and the federal government can mainly just provide grants and shit like that. At a local or municipal level, the tyranny of Robert Moses resulted in a whole slew of reforms and regulations that make it extremely difficult for cities to take on the sorts of big planning projects the left frequently calls for. Secondly, when progressives do succeed in getting legislation passed that would make the differences they envision, they rarely seem to care much about the nuts-and-bolts of how the resultant projects would actually get done (professional capacity building and workforce development) and become visible at the local level that people experience (this is a huge issue for rural and Tribal areas). Thirdly, look at how congestion pricing was defeated in NYC (which has something to do with Trump but that's a whole other issue) and the number of kneejerk leftists who actually rejected the idea of congestion pricing. Congestion pricing would have allowed the city to more successfully compete for federal grants for its mass transit system.

I don't think we should lie to voters or blame them. The American working class is unique in that we haven't had a viable party for and by the working class even though our labor movement was at a time at the forefront of world-historical class struggle. Voters today are left to either vote for a "lesser evil" or usher in outright bigotry dividing us along race, gender, class lines. The solution is to build the party of the working class and lay bare the conditions we live in. To do otherwise is to play in the bourgeois sandbox of childish individualism. -Sofia Lenin

Been MIA for a minute, rough week or so. This was forecasted when Trump decided his folks would never pump brakes on 2020 election fraud. He poisoned trust in most American institutions within a decade. Things were helped along by a post-pandemic economy and Ukraine/Gaza, although goes without saying that "Average Americans" don't understand either issue well. To most paying attention, Biden deteriorated in real-time and Harris was vapor for 3.5 years. As that occurred, "Average Americans" saw groceries and gas soar for reasons they couldn't articulate. I can't fault dumb people for making false attributions when they're starving. I can, however, fault nearly everyone else involved.Biden/Harris had the slimmest margin for error of maybe any Presidential campaign in my lifetime, yet functioned like it was in the bag. And they did it while wearing that whole "we're the underdog" face in public. That's that underlying Democrat hubris I can't stand; somehow, by virtue of a college degree and books read and causes donated to, a lot of these folks feel they'll come out on top because they can maintain a "moral high ground" regardless of election outcome. It ranks up there with that unearned pompous attitude from the MAGA special needs community. Real silo brained, social media era stuff. Just like there are "Never Trumper" Republicans and liberals, we'd be shocked to learn just how many GENERATIONS of men have a "Never Woman" voting strategy. Even so, small piece of the larger failure pie. People just want to be told stuff, ideally with confidence. Trump does that. Whether or not what he says comes with a tether to reality is irrelevant, because these people just chase being reassured. It's like chasing a high. They just want some puffy fucking loser to tell them everything will be OK while the mortgage is due, there's nowhere safe to sit downtown, and they're opening new credit lines with $0 balance transfers just to exist. Forget the country and its mountain of problems... this dude spends Day 1 wiping his record clean. That's all this has ever been about. Any court cases/pending trials he can influence, those are gone. Brazen levels of political corruption and conflict of interest out in the open, all of which more than half this country is just... totally chill with, like it's some antihero "The Joker" shit. This isn't an outgoing President greenlighting a controversial pardon at Zero Hour, it's a President knowingly committing massive crimes, thumbing his nose at punishment, weaponizing his base/media apparatus to threaten the folks involved... then delaying trial until he can make it go away in office.

Waiting for the surefire leftwing presidential campaign. “Do you like your health insurance? We’re going to take it away from you and force you to enroll in a new government healthcare system!” This will be massively popular and the Democrats will win, and then win the House two years later.

She lost for many reasons. She probably only lost Michigan due to how the administration has treated Gaza. I'm just tired of seeing the narrative still and the people who couldn't wait to post their, "See? I was right," shit on Instagram. It all just feels masturbatory to me. I think that a lot of Americans don’t give a shit about Gaza. But even for people who don’t care about the morality of the situation, sending billions towards a war while simultaneously saying they are working for a ceasefire did not help the Dems cause. Especially while everyone is feeling the effects of inflation, etc. I think this thread underestimates how large the "I hope they all kill each other" contingency is in the United States regarding Gaza. I think a lot, if not a majority, of Americans just don't want their tax money being spent over there on either side.
