What if Biden came out at the debates and was like "Yeah, I raped that lady. My son Hunter is corrupt. I do live in a trailer with mom. My friend Barack is an Uncle Tom." I know laughing is forbidden itt, but I lol’d

The way most neolibs see it I'm guessing is that Trump is like a gaping wound that is bleeding the country out. That same body is riddled with cancer and other ailments, but the first priority is just to stop the bleeding. We can't even begin to address the other problems until Trump is gone. A second Trump presidency without the concern of reelection looming would be absolutely disastrous for women and people of color, and it's not worth the possibility that democrats "learn their lesson" or whatever infantile bullshit you think will happen if Biden doesn't win. At this point, either Biden is forced to drop out, in which case, the ensuing disaster all but assures Trump's second term, or Biden is the nominee and we are faced with the impossibly awful choice of continuing with a presumptive rapist as our president, or voting for a different rapist who might pick a good replacement for RBG. Either way, a rapist is our president. America the Beautiful. I think that's Trump's ultimate appeal to voters, though. He's basically been saying yeah I'm a bad guy but I don't hide it like all of these other people in Washington do. And to all of the anti-govt people, I can get why it's appealing. Trump thinks and says he's the good guy because "he's not like them." Whichever them it is this week. Trump is never the bad guy because the bad guys want to take your stuff and make your life harder. They're the bad guys. He just wants to cut taxes make good trade deals and keep your jetski tank full. That's what every infallible-hero-of-their-own-life-story, introspectionless, doesn't-know-how-taxes-and-tariffs-work rube wants to hear. And because his main shtick is clowning on people and institutions people don't understand or already distrust, he gets to constantly play the "who ya gunna believe" card. Now that people have been empowered to say wild shit in the streets, they can't really stop siding with him because that'd make them look like bad guys too. That's the rub in all this, red hats believe they're honest and good people.

Last week my dad said a) Trump was intelligent b) that his businesses hadn't failed ("liberal propaganda") and c) that he doesn't understand why Obama was considered such a great orator because he "could hardly speak without saying "uh..." every couple of words." I was pretty much speechless and could only respond with, "absolutely nobody in the world has said any of that without saying they're joking afterwards."
Yesterday, after mentioning it to my mom, she tried to reinforce what my dad said by saying Obama speaking would put her to sleep because he halts and thinks so much before saying things... as if being deliberate and tactful about the point you're trying to express should be considered contemptible behavior now.
Sorry about having a president presenting a bunch of boring "relevant facts" and "decorum" instead of calling journalists failures to their face and telling people how beautiful and tremendous things are every 35 seconds.

My mom has definitely tried to pull the "well, you work on a college campus, so..." card in the past. As if being able to discern "right" from "wrong" and taking an interest in what sort of world my nieces/nephew inherit are exclusively liberal phenomena.

what do your folks do for work lorm? plz tell me they are on social security bc the irony would be delish My dad is a "retired" elementary school teacher... "retired" in the sense that he couldn't control his reliance on pain meds and couldn't quit cheating on my mom with the mom's of his students. He moved to Reno when I was in high school and worked in the counting cages at the Pepper Mill, so I didn't see him for a few years. He moved back in with my mom (lol no clue why my mom is such a pushover) when I was like... 19-20, was unemployed briefly and then began working at a printing place, doing blueprints and large scale print jobs. He has since bought the original owner out and now owns that business outright. My mom has worked in daycare for nearly 30 years. She's never once sought better opportunities, education or attempted to play a larger role in the field of early childhood development. They are both the epitome of wen't nowhere and experienced nothing while still acting like they're worldly and knowledgeable on shit.

My dad voted for Trump, and is always ranting about how Trump is protecting us from terrorism, and like insane Fox News shit. I knew something was off, because what he was saying was so stupid. So the other day my mom tells me he got diagnosed with Alzheimers, and has had it for a couple years. It sucks, and I feel for him, but now his political views make much more sense.

My dad is a Fox News obsessed Trump supporter who texted me a lot at the beginning of all of this that the virus is overblown, he doesn’t wear a mask and he goes golfing almost every day. He lives off of social security. I stopped responding so he doesn’t text as much anymore. I wouldn’t talk to most of my family if they weren’t my family.

As far as I can tell the key to finally understanding politics/the world and going conservative is getting "rich" or age-related cognitive decline. Ideally both.
