Alayna is a bright, kind, caring, and hardworking woman. She was at the Oregon district when the shooter opened fire and shot her in her leg. She is currently being treated at a local hospital. This is a fundraiser to help her with medical costs, living expenses, and money to help her and her daughter get back on their feet after this horrible tragedy.

made the mistake of going on breitbart to read the comments and 99.9% of them are spinning it to saying how "commucrats" are excited about this because it's a white guy and also another shooting pushes their agenda to steal their guns away.

my mind is beyond fucked up over all the mass shootings in the last 5 years that when heard about el paso and then dayton i was like 'eh, so what. nothing will change'. am i horrible for having that mindset?

No you're not. For me it was when all those Sandy Hook kids got killed. It's so easy to feel like nothing will change.

that was really what started it for me.  not that i need to seek professional help over lack of empathy towards this but i feel so helpless that this happens and voting on my principles and what i feel is the right thing for myself and this country as a whole only to have it get jammed up because of people and their idiotic logic/ties their archaic beliefs.

And Sandy Hook was all the way back in 2012. I remember already feeling pretty disheartened about all this gun violence bullshit by then, that's just the one that really sticks out. I remember thinking, surely these politicians won't do a god damn thing but if they were, it would be for children. Maybe some small semblance of momentum could begin to take hold. And I don't know about you, but if I ever voted for someone and actually started to see systemic change for the majority of people in this country, I would honestly feel like I had died and gone to heaven.

i always try to tell people since voting wont do a gd thing, the next best things we can do are be good people to each other and volunteer at worthy causes. try to make positive changes locally because a systematic change wont happen in my lifetime unless something really extreme occurs and apparently 20+ children at an elementary school isnt considered extreme anymore.

I hate that this is normal. I would hope that major changes come from the last two incidents but I know it won't. I can only imagine what former victims and their families go through every time another mass shooting happens.

This is what I think of whenever this debate is reignited. It's absolutely true, if nothing changed after SH then it probably never will. Now we're more divided politically than ever so there's really no hope to even have a constructive discussion about it.

Same here, US gun culture just makes no sense to me. Our cops aren't even armed here in NZ (aside from tasers and a special armed defenders squad which gets called in for situations where a dangerous person is armed).

It sucks but I often feel like the only thing we can do is try to individually lead lives that are in line with the world we hope for. The country is so divided that I feel like demonstrations and organizing just provide ammunition for the other side. Activism seems to fall in deaf ears: you’re either already in line or you’re not. People seem inclined to only move further to extreme and never closer together. We’ve devolved to place where the opposition is simply viewed as insane and irrational. You can leave water for migrants, counter protest Nazis, and vote as hard as you want, but the chance for meaningful chance via that route died with occupy wall street.

My moms friends were visiting from Australia during Sandy Hook. They were just dumbfounded that something like that could happen. Like most of you, I too remember feeling just numb over it.

I can’t believe it’s been 7 years already. If nothing came of children being gunned down at school, then nothing will change. It’ll be more of a societal collapse before all side agreeing there even is a problem to begin with.

Maybe I’m being paranoid, or just super bummed and frustrated. But I don’t see any other way.
