I've never really cared about lyrics. I appreciate good (to me) lyricism, but I rarely pick up on lyrics while listening and I sure as shit never read them. Due to this, I've always struggled to get into singer-songwriter artists. I know I would find value in the writing, but, sonically, it's a bit boring innit.

That whole era of bubblegum pop rock and indie rock ala drive thru/tooth and nail has a massive soft spot in my eyes. Same. My sister loved a lot of that stuff so it reminds me of her. An aside: In the 6th grade I ordered a Drive Thru Records shirt and didn't realize it had a back print that said, 'More rock than a crack house'. My mom flipped when it came in and when I emailed to return it the guy at Drive Thru sent a real nasty email back about how the site had the back printed listed (the site sucked, btw). I emailed back and he chilled out when I told him I was 11 and then sent me another shirt in return.

Felt like that Cartel record was inescapable in '05-06.

Mae has tracks. Completely weird production/recording sound. Singers voice is like… unsettling levels of clean/ethereal sounding.

There’s a whole wave of music that ate up the 2000s and whenever I hear it, I realize that I’d rather just listen to At The Drive-In. Once you take out the grittiness and the almost kinda amateurish part of it, it doesnt work

The Christian stuff made me stay away from most of the Tooth and Nail bands with the exception of Further Seems Forever. The Moon Is Down is one of my fave records though.

I just listening to Billy idol's rebel yell album 4 times straight while working. So fucking gooood..
Also, I've noticed lately that I LOVE hearing sax in songs lol. It always sounds so sick to me. I'm currently hyperfixating on a handful of older albums, and they all have sax in them at some point. Gets me GOING.

Yeah a lot of their bands in the past were the type to have a fucking prayer in the middle of the show. Few diamonds in the rough though.
The Moon is Down is a perfect record.

This was kind of me too at that time. With Mae, I was stoked when I found out they were from Virginia. When I found out they were xtian, I was less stoked and kind of bummed out. So I stopped listening to them. Now that I'm older, I mae have to revisit this one.

I’ve been a pretty militant anti theist my entire life, to the point when I was younger I used to write off bands entirely for displaying their religious inclinations. That goes for bands who are openly anti religious too.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve ditched that mindset in favour of “if it’s good, it’s good.”
I still have a problem with dorks proclaiming religious statements in the middle of a show. Looking at you, Underoath.

I’m kinda a hypocrite because ‘The Brews’ is one of the songs that initially drew me to NOFX.
