Like the title says, this thread is for general music discussions for music nerds. Have at it.

The only thing I know about Sting is that "shape of my heart" song and that shit sucks so bad so I thought all his music would be like that, but I recently listened to Englishman in New York and that shit blew my mind. Sting is definitely a quirked up white boy with a lil bit of swag.

Sting has so much dogshit in his catalogue though rest assured. So fucking thrilled I have a reason to share this abomination that everyone needs to drop everything right now and watch. It's actually the worst music video I've ever seen in my life I think, I still think about it at least once a month.

Jokes aside I definitely fuck with Sting and also The Police (not like that). My mom took me to see Sting when I was like 14 or 15 and I was lukewarm about going but I came out of it genuinely thinking that's one of the best shows I've ever been to. But I also have a huge soft spot for anything influenced by punk that's polished at the edges beyond almost all recognition from its more angular roots, it's the same part of me that also really loves Billy Idol, The Cars etc. That's like what I wish the term "pop punk" was for, because it's a much more accurate label for it instead of what it's actually used for.
I was actually literally talking about them today lmao but you would probably like Dada, they're at that similar intersection of art rock, very unapologetically pop, but also wistful horny old man music, that I fuck with heavy and could easily make an hours-long playlist for

ALL was an incredible band, and I will forever be a big ass fan boy. Allroy's revenge, allroy saves, percolator, breaking things, and pummel are albums I cherish and keep going back to no matter how many times I've listened to them. Essential road trip albums for me and my wife.
That being said, I know I'm alone in this, but I feel like they were waaaaay better than the descendents. Like, I kind of don't understand how people dont feel that way. I have Filmage and it's all just "no one gave a shit about all cause they weren't the descendents" and all that. Absolute clown shoes to me, personally.

ALL never having a stone classic like MGTC seems to be there biggest fault.
chad price is my fav singer out of the four.

Yeah allroy's revenge is as close to stone cold classic as it gets for ALL. Lot of fan favorites on that one. I think it has to do with descendents simply being first though. People wen't into ALL expecting the descendents and it was far from it. I got into ALL first. And spent a lot of time pouring over those albums and developing a relationship with each one. So by the time I decided to give descendents a go, it just made me want to throw on percolator. Now I appreciate the descendents and like a lot of their songs, but ALL is my shit lol. I'm more of a scott reynolds guy myself. Love both though.

Chocolate Starfish is when Limp Bizkit either became self aware or paradoxically they didn't and that's what ruined them from there on out cause the first two albums absolutely SLAP.

Tom Waits was so much better before he started doing that weird shit with his voice I think it works better on like Bone Machine and the ANTI stuff, but Heart of Saturday Night is definitely my all time Tom Waits record. At the same time though I don't know cuz Rain Dogs is my second.

Been on a huge R.E.M. kick lately, mostly their earlier output. Any recs regarding the 90s stuff that arenโt radio hits?

Winter fully landed this past week so that means The Appleseed Cast's 'Low Level Owl Vol. II' is on repeat. Particularly 'Ring Out The Warning Bell' has that vibe - they added a distortion affect to the drums which serves up an impression of feet crunching on the snow on a frigid night: Practically a perfect album. I don't think I have a single complaint about it.
