Oh, Canada! was pretty good. Funny at times, but very rushed. Schrader did a Q+A and said he was working on a noir and a pedophile story. Also accidently gave away Jacob Elordi's e-mail. True legend.

Conclave is good. Rumours is not. I was debating between these two and then watched Your Monster instead. Melissa Barrera rules.

Watching True Romance for the first time. It’s certainly entertaining but i already know I won’t love it like some people do. Gary Oldman is a terrific actor.

As far as off kilter, frequently silly crime movies from that time, I think I like Miami Blues a bit more.

Late Night With The Devil - i liked it a lot. IMO the "dream" part wasn't necessary and a bit boring, but the characters and the plot were really cool, and the gore part literally came out from nowhere.

Kinda mixed on Longlegs. Cage's character was great. I think the film would have worked better with just him being the killer and leaving out the supernatural doll stuff.

Big fan of Mads on Shudder. The continuous shot approach worked really well and I thought the performances were all pretty damn strong.
The title sequence was SO sick, too.

Will be watching this week. Shudder is the best bargain in my life. Kicking myself for being a later adopter (2020 during Covid) after thinking about pulling the trigger for years.

The movie doesn’t reinvent the wheel at all and some folks complain about the slow burn beginning, but my wife and I both really liked it.

Last day of AFI:
April - Georgian film that tackles abortion in a very Akerman/Haneke kind of way. One particular scene, that was kinda offscreen, made me squirm. Very solid.
Christmas Eve in Miller's Point - Very Linklater-esque hangout film that happens to take place on Christmas Eve. Also has a feel to it that reminds me of the goofier aspects of the Twin Peaks series. Very warm and pretty funny.
Eephus - This rocked. It's like Goodbye, Dragon Inn, but for baseball. Also very funny. Really nails baseball in a way that I haven't seen in other baseball films. Seems to be more about the mundane and camaderies aspect of it all.
The Shrouds - I don't understand the lackluster reception at Cannes. This is Cronenberg's funniest film to date. For a personal film that explores grief, it's very unsentimental and it's got all the Cronenberg weirdness that we all know and love.

Joker 2 reaching just north of 200 million this weekend is bittersweet. Beautiful that’s where it tops out, but I was praying for a miracle with it ending at 199 million when this was all over.

I saw 'Oh, Canada' last night with Paul Schrader Q&A. He didn't give out Jacob Elordi's e-mail but he did tell the story of Brett Easton Ellis "coming" in his "pants".
Loved the movie. Probably more than I should have (based off of most other people's reactions.)

Big trouble in little china holds up like it’s no one’s business My greatest regret in life (legit only like half kidding) is not buying a Notorious B.I.G. Trouble in Little China shirt that SEAMLESSLY integrated a pic of Big in a Coogi sweater on to the box/cover art for that movie.

Just watched Eden Lake and that movie sucks absolute shit. Just fucking horrendous. Great movie If you love weapons-grade annoying teenagers, stupid haircuts and the overwhelmingly obvious from the start knowledge that the two main characters won’t get out alive sure. I bet it’s great then.

Like if you’re just absolutely jonesing to watch a stupid-teenagers-engaged-in-violent-groupthink movie, Brick (among many others) does it infinitely better.

Watched a few Takeshi Kitano movies over the past days and I love what he was doing. Haven't watched anything he directed after the nineties, I should change that...
Got a few 4k blurays in the mail today from that 50% off criterion collection sale. A friend sent me their criterion channel codes so I spent $4.50 for: 'Citizen Kane', 'Gummo', and 'The Heroic Trio/Executioners'. Not baddddd.
