The Rock is basically a perfect action film still. Was my absolute favorite movie when I was like 9 for a while and itβs as good as I remember it. Insane cast, snappy dialogue, huge stakes, a sympathetic villain, like an 8 minute chase scene through SF, iconic Alcatraz setting, beautiful lighting and set pieces, great gunfights, a million explosions, great hand to hand combat, incredible score, etc. Honestly not sure if thereβs an action movie I enjoy more.

the rock's soundtrack is peak male performance
10/10 movie, the hollywood pedophile elite liberals are too woke to make movies like that now. sad!

The Rock is good but it still has that Michael Bay dialogue. His best film by far tho.
Badass while being a bit cringy. Started me doing a Sean Connery impression so there's that.

I liked Smile. Tho I found it often predictable and full of jump scares. It was more surreal than I was expecting and my favorite type of horror is the surreal.

I watched 'Just Friends' (2005) last night. I'm convinced that the 00s were the most homophobic decade in pop culture history?
It's such a bummer that Ryan Reynolds is still mega famous and Amy Smart, Anna Farris aren't mainstays of american films.

Read some comparison to 'Magnolia'? Curious what that means for a horror movie.

Watched Old School for the first time in years last weekend and Luke Wilson gets called a childish warlock in the first two minutes. What a time to be alive.

I fucking LOVED Smile 2 god damn. People complain about jump scares but when theyβre done like that I donβt see whatβs to complain about. That one on the bed was so unbelievably creative and I also think in general the Naomi scootβs descent-into-madness performance was one of the best in the genre in years.
Such a great ending too.

AMC is churning out movies rapidly this time of year and still upset Juror #2 isn't coming locally... Especially after a Comrade Yui review like this: an irrational system depending on irrational people to exercise rational justice: everyone is left guilty of ignorance and complicity, an innocent man thrown into a life sentence so that a child can grow up with a sinful but caring father, as if that convicted man wasn't himself once a child -- and who, in turn, was his father? a caring man? or another victim?
what happens to the eastwoodian libertarian hero when he chooses self-interest over heroism? he is only guilty by virtue of his failure of nerve, by the fact that he pretended to have ideals in the first place -- the real america has only ever existed in the dead air between its lofty self-conception and its imperious reality. when all frontiers are conquered, when all violence is institutionalized, the last battle is fought in the soul -- we presumed there was progress, but we had simply shifted the goalposts to something more intangible and expected it to still abide by concrete terms. you thought justice could be impartial, but there's always an angle: in his ninety-four years, clint knows there is no cure for the human condition, no single virtue that could outweigh an ocean's worth of sin.
we are stuck with ourselves, hoping for relief, too late in the evening for salvation, waiting for the end -- they know not what they do, they never did. at the final precipice of existence, we withdraw from spurious reasoning, and leave ourselves at the mercy of the divine -- god does not require a jury of your peers. Fuck.

Anora was really good, covered alot of bases and I really liked the ending. What was with the unnecessary homophobia tho? Definitely took me out of it a bit

Seeing a test screening for Weapons (Zach from WKUK's new alleged 3 hour horror movie) tomorrow Not exactly spoilers, but since there is hardly any info out, I'm writing it as such It's a slight step up from Barbarian
The Magnolia comparisons make sense in a couple ways, the main one being that it's broken down in sections following one character and it the way plot unravels
Not 3 hours, but 2 hours and 20 mins. However, the pacing was such a breeze, it really didn't feel that long. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets trimmed more as there are some scenes that could get cut out and it wouldn't affect the story
I could see people maybe complaining that it isn't scary enough, but I think you could honestly make up for that by advertising it as a mystery/thriller
The comedy works, Austin Abrams is so funny in it and there is one moment with Josh Brolin that got a huge laugh.
Also sat behind Zach and told him good job

I watched Unforgiven for the first time the other day and it was one of those times where a movie ends and I wanna immediately put it on again. Also made me better understand how utterly fucked WB is for shafting Eastwood and Juror #2 the way they are.

A group of elementary school students leave their house and disappear overnight, but some townspeople assume that this one teacher (Julia Garner) is responsible because all the students are in her class. The film follows several different characters, some more connected than others, but things become more connected as the film goes on

Gonna go see Anora on 35mm at the theater near my house on Friday.
Watched The Hit (1984) last night and loved it, great style, great cast.
