Okay, I was wrong there. The DoD just announced this, so its kinda unexpected since they will still only be doing support roles. www.vox.com/2018/10/29/18026646/military-border-caravan-immigrants-trump-caravan"So while the troops at the border will be armed, they will only legally be able to assist US border officials by doing things like helping transport border agents and providing emergency medical care to those who need it. The armed forces can also work to reinforce infrastructure around the border, like putting additional razor wire on border fences". I am not in support of this at all. I think it's a complete waste. But given I know how ROE's work in the military, the chances of these troops engaging any migrant is zero. |

I was talking to my friend about the caravan thing the other day and mentioned that while I'm a decently fit guy I am not sure I could walk from fucking Guatemala to the US/Mexico border if I absolutely had to. Must be a completely harrowing trek. Better get more guns and bodies to the border in case these extremely tired and desperate people try to cross an imaginary line. |
